Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

What’s it doing? Shutting down/red logo? If so, I know the fix.

It’s going silent, staying on, making a clicking sound (like a relay turning on and off) and the display going screwy. After a 5 minute plug out it seems to reset and work again. But it’s happening almost daily.

It was suggested elsewhere that it might be heat with the power supply, and it is above the tube amp and I did have to remove the isolation platform under it for clearance for the Matrix SPDIF so I don’t know if there is something in that. Waiting for PS Audio to come back to me.

Edit: @Joe Mac I know the fix but I’m slammed at work.

Turn off your streaming stuff in the PS Audio setup menu. I’ll explain later. Should work.

I’m not sure what you mean by that, it doesn’t have streaming just the DAC, the actual streaming and CD player are in separates. But no worries if busy, take your time, I’d be delighted with any help that saves me having to buy something new!

So sadly my preamp/DAC is acting the bollox, is out of warranty, and it’s likely a PCB issue that will need me to cover shipping to the uk, for repairs and parts, and shipping back.

Really is money I don’t need to spend but unless someone at PS Audio knows a simple fix I’m likely going to have to get a new preamp/DAC or each individually.

Currently looking at Audio GD and wondering if anyone knows of them or has any thoughts? Their R27RE is probably a bit more than I want to spend but seems to fit the bill better than anything else I’ve seen.

Also open to any solid alternative recommendations!
I have no idea whether this fits the bill for you but Quad's Artera Play + might be an option. UK based.

@Joe Mac Ok sorry, there’s a similar issue with their integrated amp that has to do with firmware. Doesn’t apply here.

Does this only happen only with the digital inputs or all of them?

Can you humor me and unplug your sub from the Gaincell DAC? Does that solve the problem?

No worries. They did add the network card to the Strata that wasn’t on the GCD. It happens on both the analogue for the vinyl and the DAC inputs for my CD transport and streamer. The sub isn’t connected to the PS Audio, it’s connected to the PrimaLuna speaker taps using a high level connector.

I got a little excited when I found out that Schiit had a CD player. I didn’t think it also be a little pricey. I appreciate its small footprint.

It’s not actually badly priced for a CD transport aiming at the higher end and yes it’s full width but it’s pretty short which means it’ll fit in most spaces. The slightly eccentric thing is that it uses usb to pass the CD audio to the DAC which I’ve never seen before but I suppose most modern DACs do have a USB in.

That’s fair. I just don’t think I want to spend that much right now. Although it does come in Silver. 😁

Does anyone have a set of active speakers connected to their TV? Don’t fancy a full home theatre system, but quite like the idea of connecting it to a stereo set of speakers, that I can also use to stream music from. Don’t have much of a list, with the Kef LSX II at the high end price wise.

What’s the price point? You all know I’m a fan of Bryston, but I buy all my gear used.

Yeah the PS Audio is both and so I need both and denafrips don’t do a combi lol.

I’m still hoping PS Audio can come back to me with some suggestions. It does work but with random glitches and errors occuring.

Last few days it goes a bit shitso after an hour. Sound cuts, random clicking (sounds like a relay opening and closing) and the display goes bonkers. Unplug it and after 5 minutes plug it back in again and it starts working. Not sure what to make of it.
Firmware update?
