And definitely NOT the Zodiac Killer…

Wait a sec. Ted Cruz is a Canadian serial killer who enjoy Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy…

Has anybody ever see @Mather and Ted Cruz in the same place at the same time?

@Mather is better looking. I don't think Mrs. @Mather would put up with any costume fuckery that would result in him looking like that fucker.

Edit: I'm not Storf, I have some command of English!! - i.e. it's a real edit where I added a word ("think") and a letter ("Ms." to "Mrs."). I may or may not have deleted the word "much" as well.

Re: a cart upgrade on the SME 3012 II tonearm on my Garrard 401, at least for the moment I've narrowed my choices to the Hana SL or Ortofon Quintet Black S. I'm taking @HiFi Guy's word that compliance isn't a problem (I honestly need to learn how to figure this out for myself), and apart from one of the SPUs, which are quite pricey and seem to me a bit too much of a niche direction, the SL and Quintet Black S seem like my most reasonable choices. (Replacing a Denon D103R). Any further input? I can't foresee having an opportunity to try both (short of buying both, which I'm not about to do), so that leaves me susceptible to opinion! Which I welcome.

I found this article by Michael Fremer useful. At the very least it reinforces the idea that both these carts are worth considering.

Both are worth considering. The review is a bit odd because I don’t find the Quintet Black S bright at all. I don’t like bright cartridges and I like the Quintet Black S very much. I could be happy just buying it over and over when it wears out.

The Quintet S is now $1095. I don’t know if I’d be looking at the Hana SL I’d be comparing to the ML at $1200. But you are still getting an aluminum cantilever on the Hana vs sapphire on the Ortofon. Both are equally easy to set up, so there’s no advantage either way.IMG_2364.jpeg

Good info, as usual! 🍻 Leaning toward the Ortofon.

This is by far THE BEST explanation/demonstration of turntable setup I've ever seen, and I've been trying to figure out a lot of this stuff for years. So often, the people providing these instructions make the mistake of assuming too much about what the viewer/student already knows, and they end up leaving out some of the most important stuff (like what half of the fucking acronyms actually stand for!). This guy nails it, man. I've been schooled! Best 35 minutes I've spent on my computer in a long time.
