Do they not teach percentages in Canadialand? We regret to inform you the clock is also racist, misogynistic and seditious.
In addition to being illiterate.
You want me to express my thoughts about Ted Cruz in the form of percentage based insults?Do they not teach percentages in Canadialand?
I was just saying, he is right a statistically non-existent amount of time. I wasn't saying he was right about other things. lol. smh.You want me to express my thoughts about Ted Cruz in the form of percentage based insults?
I mean if your HHGTTG is not functioning correctly, you are gonna have all kinds of problems. Has any one done the new update to their Babel Fish? Mine is all glitchy now.So yes. This last couple of pages has been, errrrr, fun?
So this gear. It’s great stuff isn’t it…

Re: a cart upgrade on the SME 3012 II tonearm on my Garrard 401, at least for the moment I've narrowed my choices to the Hana SL or Ortofon Quintet Black S. I'm taking @HiFi Guy's word that compliance isn't a problem (I honestly need to learn how to figure this out for myself), and apart from one of the SPUs, which are quite pricey and seem to me a bit too much of a niche direction, the SL and Quintet Black S seem like my most reasonable choices. (Replacing a Denon D103R). Any further input? I can't foresee having an opportunity to try both (short of buying both, which I'm not about to do), so that leaves me susceptible to opinion! Which I welcome. The SPU will work. Some don’t like them because of the 4 gram tracking force, but your records won’t be damaged.
The Hanas will work well, as will the Ortofon Quintet Black S.

I found this article by Michael Fremer useful. At the very least it reinforces the idea that both these carts are worth considering.
The Hana SL MC ($750) Versus The Ortofon Quintet Black S MC ($999)
(The accidental channel reversal on one file has been fixed). Here are two great, "reasonably" priced, superbly built cartridges that I've chosen to review together while giving you the opportunity to "hear" both! Let's start with the less expensive ($750) Hana SL manufactured by Excel Sound...www.analogplanet.com

Awesome! Thank you. Now I know there is a calculator for this (thank you for the link!). Only remaining question is how to interpret? I read that you want the line to be in the green, and I guess this would satisfy that requirement? Is there a specific compliance value to strive for? General rules of thumb?Compliance/Effective Mass Calculator
to optimally match your tonearm with your cartridgekorfaudio.com
Tonearm effective mass for the SME 3012 is 12.5g, cartridge weight for the Ortofon is 9g, compliance is 15.

Also, I believe the effective mass for the SME 3012 II is 14g, but it still looks good.

Thanks again. This is very helpful. If you scroll down on the site they have a few examples of what you're looking for.
I would say that your graph looks fine. Acceleration is totally in the green, and excursion has an expected, but not too sharp, overshoot around 5hz, which is typical.
Where things get complicated is that Japanese cartridge makers use a different compliance measurement that does not work for this calculator (or any calculator), so you can only really figure out their actual compliance based on direct measurement. If you're lucky, someone may have done this already with the Hana SL.
