Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

you know another idea... these turntable shelfs... do they actually do any supension stuff or is it all in the brace to the wall. Like if I mounted the butcher block to the wall, would that isolate the table from floor bounciness?

I could get the Nad out of the cabinet and on top, the marantz could go in that hole and the table on a shelf above the stand...

I think a lot of it depends on the shelf but the main function is to tie it to the wall rather than the floor to isolate it from floor movement. I have actually seen a lot of people online use turntable shelves but rest a piece of butchers block on feet on top and then place the turntable on it.

Depends on the amp but generally it’s a bad idea to stack anything on top of an amp, or to give it too little headroom above, because they cool by convection to they need to be able to vent hot air out the top.

RCA should be fine up to 1.5m approx. Optical similar. I think you can run coax a little longer.
I can’t imagine any cable under 15 feet would be an issue. We’re dealing with line level or digital signal.

Those turntable shelves seem stupid expensive. I mean I have multiple levels. I get a couple of shelf brackets, black to match the feet of the cabinet... cut a couple of channels in the back for cable management. My walls are wood panelled so they are pretty solid and it's not like I have to find a stud to secure it. If it doesn't improve it, which I'm pretty certain it will, will give me an excuse to upgrade the orbit's feet.

I'm liking this idea...

I’m not into headphones by choice but by necessity. Many times the only way I can listen to music at home these days is with headphones on…especially at night. my home office is next to my 1 year old's room so can't listen through speakers at night. and my main set up can't be properly blasted at night when he's asleep. the audiolab has a pretty solid headphone amp built in that it switches over to when headphones are plugged in. The headphones output on the NAD316BEE is nothing to write home about. I can listen to streaming through the Singxer DAC headphone output but not vinyl.

I have the massdrop meze noirs and quite like them:

I think the main difference with the drop ones are a little shorter cord and different color.
I remember those days. Kids adjust to background noise really well or at least mine did over time. Ha!

The wireless ear buds have really been a nice evolution over time. I'm sticking with those and the Qobuz app.
I would probably trip over a headphone cord and rip my amp off the shelf or something stupid if I add anything else to my clumsy path.

My wife already thinks I tune her out. A really good headphone set would make it too obvious.

I like the interconnect system you can get from Hart. It makes it easy to switch headphones with the different amps I have. Not the cheapest option, but a nice system if you have multiple sets of headphones and amps.
huh....so how does it work with the Hart cables? I see they have dual 3.5mm to balanced XLR for the mezes but does that need to be connected to the interconnect that's XLR to 1/4"? or if my DAC has an XLR headphone output can they be plugged into that without the interconnect? is there any sonic benefit to balanced XLR if none of the rest of my system is balanced?

I REALLY have enjoyed my b&ws, I'm just saying. And you can do at least two upgrades from what I got at this point.

afaik you should be balanced all the way through.

Cool! Sounds like you have a plan a brewing!

I always like the looks of these ones that give you the shelf for the phone stage too but I don’t have the wood skillz

The cables to the headphones are balanced you can use whichever interconnect (3.5,1/4, 2.5, 4.4, or XLR) that works with your amp.

If you only have one set of headphones or a single headphone amp the Hart system is probably overkill.

I have 6 sets of headphones and 3 spots (amps) in the house where I use them.

Is there a benefit to balanced? It depends on the amp. It’s been my experience that the balance output tend to sound better because of the way the amp is designed or it’s the priority output. I have also used single ended amps that sound great.

The problem with RCA cables longer than 3 meters is that the shield resistance starts to go up and that makes it more susceptible to EMI and ground loops.

Using a double braid shielded coax cable puts more copper in the ground path to help keep resistance low. BJC LC-1 and Belden 1505F are double braid coax designs. Mogami Gold has a similar construction.

Does anyone have experience with one of these?
Looking at one if the Project wall wart plug sucks as bad as the name.

Just wanted everyone to know that I just received my "Herbies AudioMart GrungeBuster" in the mail and it's going to revolutionize how people listen to records.

I will be taking no further questions.
Dude, you should have asked questions before purchasing the GrungeBuster. I hope it helps. The less expensive Way Excellent gets all the accolades from the Rega crowd, anyway. On Rega tables the GB has shown to suck the life out of records and the WE is just right. Maybe your VPI will like some extra taming. Sorry to be such an ass and i hope your experience is great.

Oh. It's not the turntable mat. It's even more incredible and life changing.
