Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Don’t let the age be a deterrent. I heard a system last weekend where all the equipment except the streamer/dac was made in 2003. Joseph Audio speakers, musical fidelity nu vista amp and CP player, PS Audio power supply.

Excellent sound. Good gear last for decades when it’s maintained.
Oh yeah, its mainly because it's pretty digital as these things go, if it was straight up analog I wouldn't be very concerned.

Yeah I mean the thing is I don't need the streamer, I have the blusound node so it's unnecessary. What about it was a deal breaker? Just because it's older?

Kills the resale value if it’s been outdated by the time you go on to sell it, even if it was being sold on to someone who equally doesn’t care.

It's more of a personal preference thing, and honestly it's somewhat unjustified.
But when I think about how long something will work for, I think about software updates. I don't care for the idea that at some day the amp will be fully functional... except the streamer. Not because the hardware failed, but because the streaming software is no longer being supported.

Similarly I think an ideal state would be to always have a standalone streamer. I don't even fully adhere to this with my CXNv2. And honestly I'll probably replace that at some point with another streamer/dac. But in the amp... I don't want it there.

Yeah that makes perfect sense, nor do I quite frankly. In a perfect world I find an integrated with no streamer and no phono stage. Since I really don't need either of them...

I dunno if it's just due to the number of different models they have but man there are a tonne of Luxman and Accuphase amps on Canuck Audio Mart right now.

EDIT- The Luxman naming convention is so damn confusing though. It's impossible to follow what falls where in any of the lines...

I think of the built in phono on my Lux as a backup, it’s there if something happens to my external one. The phono stage hasn’t really evolved over the years, so having one built in doesn’t drag the value of an integrated down.

DACs and streamers though, they’re like boat anchors for an integrated/pre amp value. Best to leave that stuff out of a purchase. (Room correction software can be similar).
