Yeah I totally agree. It's actually one of the really interesting things about going to the audio show each year, hearing just how close in sound a $1000 system can be to a $10,000 system, and honestly this scales right up until you start getting to the kookoo bananas upper end of the price range. I generally spend two thirds of the show kinda just nodding my head and thinking "Yeah mine sounds the same or better." And maybe one third where the systems are on another level, but that's not that often. A lot of it is just realizing that in many cases all these crazy systems just sound "different" from each other rather than "better". It also makes you realize just how much your space and room acoustics accounts for the sound. You get the right room and a $1000 system will sound like a $10,000 system, wrong room and that $10,000 system sounds like a Blaupunkt playing out the back trunk of a Iroc.I'll still contend and I think a lot of us realize this, but now a days, you really don't need to spend a fortune to get a great sounding system up and running. Honestly, the money sink in a system ends up becoming vinyl, but only if you're neurotically chasing the perfect sound...............nobody around here of course

I’ll take a look into the Schitt too. But probably already getting an inexpensive headphone amp for the time being.

Fair enough, it just seemed like the perfect fit being a preamp that has both passive and active options and a headphone amp that turns off the speakers lol.

Running a Grado Gold 3 and looking at replacing the stylus in 2025. Had originally assumed to drop in the 8MZ but looking at their lineup am now including the MCZ or TLZ as possibilities. I want a step up from the stock Gold 3 stylus and judging by the prices and site reviews the MCZ may be the cost to performance sweet spot. Is there any experience or opinions to weigh in on this selection?

Loved the 8mz on my gold 2 but ended up going to the opus 3 in the end rather than further up the signature line of styli. Good luck, be interested to hear what you make of them.

I only used them for a day or two because of how hot they were making my office. But they were impressive and I'll be putting them back in once the weather ticks down a couple more degrees.

It wouldn't be so bad in the winter but my apartment is too small and it's too damn hot in the South. My electricity was insane this summer too, so I couldn't justify running the AC that hard.

I did stereo with input selector. Dual mono is cool but seems a bit like overkill unless there’s a method to control both sides at once with the remote.
