Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Hell yeah!
500w into those JBLs.
You are going to be moving some air.

I have heard a lot of good things on the musical fidelity amps and phonos.
Yeah I mean realistically this won't happen to next year at the earliest. But I'm definitely going to keep my eyes open for deals or demos. There's a 800.2 silver unit near me that's a demo but I prefer the black to the silver with this one I think. The silver is okay, I may even like it more if the VU meters were real and not a LCD screen. But they ain't...

Meh, VU meters are overrated.
It's like the distracting strobe light on my Technics that I wish I could turn off.

JBL/Harman engineers

My home theater dealer (and all around great guy) is really tight with Harman. He did Dr. Toole’s home theater and a few other of the muckity-mucks. That’s why they ever consorted with the likes of me.
I was about to ask how you got in touch with an Harman engineer.

When I worked there we'd email the product lead, who would email the project manager, who would email the engineering lead, who said he would reach out to the right engineer. Then 3 months later we would do the product launch and we'd immediately get an email from an engineer we had never heard of saying "WHY WOULD YOU PUT THAT IN THERE?!?!?!?!?!?"

Ah, big corp life 🙃

Haha yeah I've never to my knowledge actually spoken to a Harman engineer, it's only local techs for the Eriksson subsidiaries.

Ok here's one for you sleuths out there. @Joe Mac maybe this rings a bell for you.
When Musical Fidelity released the Nu Vista 800 integrated in 2014 it originally looked like this (I think)...

Came in silver and black and faceplate showed the heat sink fins on each side.
At some point the faceplate changed and started to look like this:

No fins. What I'm trying to determine is when this happened and whether anything else was changed in the unit or was it just the faceplate. Cannot find any mention of it online, and it appears the 800 is the only model prior to the 800.2 that was released this year

I've looked like crazy and I can't find an answer to this. Also called Musical Fidelity but no answer... Thoughts?

You’re nuts? Oh you meant about the amp? None at all.

"The 800.2 integrated amplifier, launched in July of last year, replaces the original 800 model, first seen in the middle of the previous decade. A redesign was required because certain parts, namely the display, are no longer available. Further upgrades include revisions to the power supply and the new, much more modern display. The amplifier seems to have gained a couple of kilos too, now weighing a not-inconsiderable 41kg."

Yes but these aren't the 800.2. the 800.2 has a LCD screen and other changes. The units I posted above are all listed as the 800 with the original and now discontinued digital display. This is the 800.2:

Ahhhh, I see what you mean now. That  is weird. Did they repackage any other component's casework similarly? That might indicate a change for aesthetics or faceplate availability reasons, as opposed to anything internal to that amp.

It appears the 600 had a similar change but again, can't find a single mention of it anywhere online or on their website. And some locals have the finned ones and others have the flat faceplate but none know why hahaha... I thought it might have been an old mockup that just got erroneously used online for the product image but then I saw a listing at another location for a used unit and it's clearly the 800 with a flat faceplate...

If you were to find one would it matter if it had the ridges or not?
