Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Damn these are beauuuuuutiful. He feels they slightly edge out the Lintons with enhanced clarity + detail without sounding cold. Mentions they feel more dynamic and exciting..... I'm tempted off looks alone. He also has them propped up on Linton stands and they look quite nice just like that.

Looks like they go up in price in Jan! Buy buy buy!

I haven’t really felt the need to swap the Lintons out. Think there are a few other items that I’ll swap first on the main setup.

Had my first opportunity to deploy the mini switch and listen today while spinning a mini copy of the Beach Boys’ Christmas Album. Yeah, that’ll do nicely. It’s akin to when the eye doctor is checking your prescription and do the flipping lens thing. They’re popping along and you think things look good and then all of a sudden there is one that brings everything into sharper focus - it’s subtle but still a significant wow.

I think I crave a bit more clarity and definition from the Lintons, so I’ve naturally been browsing it would appear. I also kind of get bored of their looks lol.

I keep the grill off because I can’t look at them with the grill, they’re too vapid of design and I’m learning my speakers need to be as beautiful as the sound that they produce or I feeling wanting. I’m trying to resist springing for these before January but I’m not sure if I’ll last lol.

I just wonder if I might as well go for the Zhu Dirty Weekend 6s? They’re not much more. Has anyone here owned those?

I have heard some pretty polarizing things about Zu speakers in general and would try to audition them if you can…

Not sure if you've heard them, but I think Monitor Audio go under the radar a bit and produce a sound you might like. I hear good things about Dynaudio as well though I've never heard them.

Or you could buy a pair of Harbeths and then hate them and sell them here at a discount so I can get some.

If you want something to look at check these out. E50

Also, this reviewer really liked the DWX and he runs Kinki Studio preamp and mono blocks, so they should be a good match for your Kinki amp.

Another speaker worth checking out if you want more detail, but not too much are the Triangle Comete 40th.

Agree on the triangle.

They make some pretty speakers and the detail especially on vocals was a nice bump from what I had.

Those Buchardts are sick but out of my range for a while. The Triangle's look quite nice but they're so smallllll. I like my big chunky cabinet.

If I get the Zhu's I would just pop them on my linton stands like Darko did and sell the Speakers. Think I'd probably splurge for the Walnut version as well to match them to the stands.Screenshot 2024-12-20 at 4.26.48 PM.png

Love that red color. Will look at the Zu line for sure once the 300b is ready. The C7’s aren’t going to cut it with so few watts.

Isoacoustics ZaZen II. It works!

Earlier this week I saw the ZaZen II on Amazon for $190 USD (regularly $230) and decided to give it a try. I’ll admit I was skeptical and ready to return if I didn’t notice a difference.

I had put my DC Evo w/ Moonstone back into service while troubleshooting stylus issues on my Ultradeck. Every time I do this I question whether or not the Ultradeck was worth what I paid (bought before recent price cuts).

As soon as I put the ZaZen II under the Evo I noticed an immediate improvement. The turntable sits on a Kallax shelf full of records on a carpeted floor I figured this was doing a good job of taking care of resonance affects. I was wrong.

With the ZaZen II in place I notice an immediate drop in noise floor. You could hear it in the dead wax and between tracks. I also noticed more pronounced bass and dynamics. To make sure I wasn’t hallucinating I removed the ZaZen and played the same records and there was a noticeable difference.

I am going to keep the ZaZen and am curious to hear if it has similar effects when placed under the Ultradeck once I get it back up and running.
