Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Hey, thanks all!

@folsom_lives - I should have specified, I need one with an analog input. I saw this one and initially thought it was the one until I saw it only has digital inputs.

@Krampus' #1 Diaper Baby - thanks! There seem to be a few at this kind of $20-$40 price range. @mindhead1, I actually have an MPOW for my car that I quite like. I realize this is a little crazy, but I actually use it because it has virtually unnoticeable latency, I sometimes have super long drives for work, and it lets me stream a game with audio in sync. I promise I am keeping my eyes on the road and only doing this on long stretches of interstate!! Haha. I'm thinking of something with a little bit more fidelity if possible, as audio-wise it's definitely more compressed than the built-in BT in my car.

@Pergo - saw that one as well, but unfortunately it's just a receiver, which is the way more common application.

This all has lead me here:

Seems to get universally great feedback amongst a more audio-conscious crowd. Question is, is it worth the extra ~$90 from one of the $40 options available. I mean, I sure like that screen. Haha

Thanks all for the help, keep you posted on what the heck I'm trying here!

For anyone interested in my weird Bluetooth transmitter quest - ended up going with this Auris BluMe Duo. I have a converted garage that serves as my office, studio, and small home gym. I have a StudioDeck out there, and wanted to be able to spin some LPs through Bluetooth headphones while working out.

This thing through Bose QC45s even with just the simple SBC codec sounds way better than I could have anticipated. It doesn’t have any sort of volume control on either end, so I’m feeding it from a monitor controller so that I have some passive attenuation on the front end, otherwise the input will clip if I just take it flat off the phono pre, and it does seem to require a set of Bluetooth headphones that has on-board hardware volume control, as it did not play with AirPods, but perhaps that’s just because those only really behave well with playback from Apple devices? You guys likely know better than I.

It’s been a lot of fun being able to get a few more LP listens in each week!

That’s dedication! I have an old Sonos 5 in my garage gym. I would never think to try and play records and work out.

Thanks for all the advice/suggestions over the last few days team. Going to try and pick it up on Sunday and spend my MLK day spinning records back to back lol. Will keep y'all posted!

P.S. he wants $4200 in cash, that's not weird right?
If he invites me into his home for a demo, I wouldn't mind handing over actual paper dollars. But I would prefer paypal or similar in this case.

Update: He's agreed to do PayPal and has even invited me inside to test everything out before committing to anything. But in agreeing to PayPal he mentioned there being a +3% transaction fee? Is he talking about the Goods and Services fee?

PayPal charges the seller a fee on sales. If you do family and friends it charges you a fee instead of him but you lose the buyer protections.

If I'm ever doing stuff like this I always ask to meet at a police station or somewhere extremely public like a grocery store parking lot. If they start to be flakey then you know it's a scam.
I do this for cheap stuff. Or stuff that I think might be stolen. FB, Craigslist and Ebay are much more common for those things. But if it's from a dedicated hifi exchange, pretty good chance they are a normal person if they even found those sites. Not enough volume on those channels for scammers to waste their time.

Plus in this case, you can't demo it at a police station or public site. If I'm dropping $4K on audio gear, I want to make damn sure it works.

See, this is how @Mather operates, he knows you think this…
