Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Marantz PM-10's are on close out at MusicDirect for $5000 (original 9K).

Add to that an open box one for 4K. Sounded like a good deal to me.

And since it has no subwoofer out....I *had* to buy a new subwoofer. So I added a REL T/9x to the order.

I was planning on buying a Luxman 509Z later this month but....I don't mind spending 8,500 less.

That Marantz is meant to be mega and I adore my REL TZero, it’s your felllas little brother. I think you’re going to have a lot of fun with those. Make sure to read the REL manual in respect of grounding with a high level connection and a class d amplifier.

Y'all.

Big update, I'm moving apartments in NYC and this new apartment could not possibly have a better listening room environment, big industrial NYC loft with an open floor plan. I can probably get my speakers 4+ feet out from the back wall and like 8+ feet out from side walls and the ceilings are like 20 feet tall or something. I'm unbelievablllyyyy stoked BUT I'm skeptical that the walls are that thick and concerned my neighbors will feel my DWX at higher volumes.

Anyone know of any renter friendly ways for keeping sound INSIDE the space and making it quieter for nearby units or is it hopeless and will I have to learn how to love mid level listening lol
You’re giving up that view. 🤦🏾‍♂️

Yes from what I understand, I got hook up one wire to a chassis screw.

I ordered the REL bassline cable - which is supposed to be an upgrade - so I could get a 3m cable rather than the monster 10m one that comes stock. Although the bassline comes terminated in spades - which I believe the stock is bare? - so I'll have to re terminate it to bare.

I didn’t go for their baseline but I had one made by a third party cable company over here for the same reason but I did go with spades. If your speaker cable is terminated with bananas I’d keep the spades. They fit nicely behind the terminal, are a cleaner fit than bare wire and the banana can still plug in the middle, it’s what I do. Maybe have to strip the ground wire to bare if the chassis screw won’t hold the spade in place.

Yes that's what I meant. The spades should work fine for use with speaker bananas. It's likely the ground wire I'll need to strip.

Trust me, I’m sad about it but it’s a 750 sq ft Apt with little storage currently being shared by 2 humans, a Rottweiler mix, a Husky mix, the fattest cat known to man and another normal cat PLUS 700 records.

This new space is at least double the amount of space if not triple, and to answer @Mather s question, the actual living room space in the new place is probably like 700-800sq ft? Like the size of my current apt if not bigger 😬

Edit: I looked at pics and idk how to calculate space lmfao so I have no clue. It’s a 1300sqft loft and most of that is open space ??? So I’m guessing it’s a good deal

Yeah so you MAY find your current speakers get lost in all that new space but hopefully they fill it well. I used to live in a 1300 ft hard loft and going from a small condo to that place not only did my speakers kinda vanish into the ether but my bass, that I thought was very reasonable, resonated down all the iron girders directly into my neighbors apartments and sounded like a night club. Definitely do some testing when you get things set up. And give your neighbors some gifts.

What you’re saying is

I’m toast and it’s time to become a headphones guy.
Not necessarily. Every room and building is different. The fact that your main room is much smaller than mine was is definitely an advantage AND the wood vs iron is also an advantage AND your lack of a sub is also an advantage. You might be totally fine. But just check the transfer because at least for me I was shocked at how much resonated out of my unit.

Plus the building is presumably older, I live on the other side of the country but here it can mean it’s well built. My apartment complex was built in 1972 and you can hear people sneeze it’s absurd, your new space has so much going for it on paper I’d stay glass half full.
