Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Thanks. In the states it’s a la carte ordering, so I’d be getting the same power supply (M-1 Ref) with any of them, unless I went with a multi-motor (I’m not). I asked my dealer about the Fat Bob and he preferred the Dark Star SS to it, partly due to the POM chassis, and the Bellini to either. The price difference is around $800 with the Bellini more dear.
Simply on looks I like the Dark Star. I know nothing of the actual quality of The tables but they're stuff is definitely on my radar for the future. Plus... CANADIAN!

I know my dealer just loves Transrotor on the whole, so whatever you pick, it'll likely sound fantastic. I'm surprised your dealer ranks the Fat Bob so low. I love the expansive sound of a high mas turntable, but that is me. I imagine the Dark Star, being all POM and lighter, will probably have a snappier sound signature albeit smaller in scale. Maybe the Bellini gives a bit of both: higher agility from the lighter acrylic plinth but with some breadth and heft from the 9kg aluminum platter. Have you been able to demo any of the models in question?
Actually, mea culpa, I was remembering him discussing the ZET line. I just texted to ask about the Fat Bob S. I like that I can a) add a second to earn, and b) either can be 9” or 12” and, c) it has visual interest. The Bellini is beautiful, but could be easily mistaken at first as a Pro-Ject or Musical Fidelity.

Transrotor’s shouldn’t look like anything other than a Transrotor in my poorly informed but loudly proclaimed opinion.

Kronos, Pure Fidelity, and Space Tech all have the Big C.

C for Canada that is. Not the other Big C. Oh come on people, not THAT c either! Jeez!
Space Tech looks like they made all their gear out of things they found on the side of the highway. (Including their website)

This isn't a slam. It's kinda charming. But they all look like high school science projects.

Ok that was kinda a slam.

GODDAMN which is the Canadian one? Kronos?
Oracle and Pure Fidelity, as far as I know. Wish I could afford a Pure Fidelity table.

The Fat Bob is wonderfully minimalist industrial. And I am with you on not being enthralled by the acrylic plinth. I’d probably scratch it on my first attempt to dust it. Hope your dealer is positive about the Bob!

The Fat Bob S TMD that @ZiggsMBK mentioned has been around for many years, and has lots of ways to grow over time. People have replaced the stock 60mm platter with the 80mm Reference platter, added second or even third tone arms and motors (which would need a different power supply, but cool that it can be done). Fascinating. Looking forward to hearing what my dealer says.

Here’s one with a 12” armboard for the primary and a 9” for the secondary tone arms.

An example of a triple motor, dual arm.

And a triple tonearm setup.

Ooh, I love the 12 and 9 setup. Stereo on the 12, mono on the 9: bliss.

God, that makes me love my Rega even more. ;)

I ordered the Fat Bob S TMD with a 12” armboard today. Just one arm to start, let my wallet lick its wounds and heal a little. But I’m loving the idea of a second 9” for a mono cart. So, that’s on my list now. I also ordered an Audiomods 12” Series VI Evolution arm for the new table. I have a 10.5” on my Feickert and really enjoy it.

Thanks for the Fat Bob recommendation! I honestly thought my dealer and I discussed it, but apparently we never did.
