Everything Video Games!

Wish they would do a remake of just the multiplayer as it is one of my favorites. If I can get it for cheap or on PS+ I'll probably play that part again.
There have been talks of Factions being a stand-alone for YEARS now. Crazy that it still hasn't materialized all these years later...

Oh in the comments it sounds like this remake won't actually have multiplayer, unlike the remaster. So even less interesting to me. Maybe it means that standalone multiplayer is coming?

So pumped this is next week! Also only $22.49 preorder on Switch right now.

Edit: just realized the post above me had the longer article on the MP entry

hello. i am not a gamer, even though my friend who got me into video games and is a video game developer says i am. i say that because i SUCK at 3d games. i just can’t handle it yet. i’m working on it with a game called witness where there’s no action (it’s a puzzle game, myst-esque).

HOWEVER. if anyone here is into logic or puzzle games… please play Baba Is You.

it is my favorite video game. and i have beat every level in the overworks. except maybe the last one? it’s hard to explain. BUT they just added a shitton more levels so i am back at it. i am obsessed with it.

ALSO - if anyone has played monster’s expedition or steven’s sausage roll, there’s a game called Bonfire Peaks which i am also currently obsessed with. it’s a guy basically figuring out how to set all his stuff on fire. i even told my therapist about it because i feel it on a deep level. aside from that, it’s fun.

there are others, like Obra Dinn (i can’t remember how it’s spelled), and the two i mentioned before. a fun card-based strategy one is Inscription. these are all available on Steam. and some of them also on the Nintendo store. oh! and Diablo!

ALSO there’s a really cool game called Solar Ash which i think is only on Playstation rn? i can’t remember but it is BEAUTIFUL. i might be biased because i watched as i was quarantined with my friend since the beginning of the pandemic, and basically watched him work every single day.

also, Beat Saber rules.

k this has been my contribution to the video game thread. if anyone ever wants to talk Baba, i am here for it.

thanks for coming to my ted talk.

i guess i could talk about elden ring even though i’ve never played but i watch it being played a lot and i have learned these things (sorry if they are basic. everything video games is new to me):
— spend your runes to level up. if you don’t, you’ll lose them when you die and wont level up anyway.
— just run past dudes you don’t have to fight.
— of weapons you can get early on, the rusty anchor and claymore. these are slower weapons but do a lot of damage
— the easiest starting class is a knight because you get a really good shield
— for fighting, if you see someone slowly winding up for an attack, roll towards them.
— if you see someone doing a fast attack, get your shield up. but only keep shield up when you NEED to or you’ll run out of stamina. so only hold it up for blocking

ok the end

Good advice overall, and a lot of that applies to the other souls games as well. I'm level 84 and running through Altus Plateau now, and the Rust Anchor is still my highest damage weapon, though I have switched to Godricks Axe because it's slightly faster and will catch up to the anchor after 1-2 more upgrades. I'd also add if you see someone jump, roll towards them as they come down. Seen way to many people die to Godrick from that attack by rolling backwards.

Also, for the veterans, should I go fight Radhan before going too much further in Altus Plateau? I ran through a lot of Caelid already, but I only saw two people at the festival area, so should I go find the rest first?

Replaying banjo kazooie for the first time in a few years. I absolutely adore this game but whoever designed the fucking engine room in rusty bucket should be tried as a war criminal

That was one of my go-to games on the N64. At one point in time I could get all the way to Gruntilda in a little over 6 hours WITH EVERY PUZZLE PIECE AND EVERY MUSIC NOTE IN THE ENTIRE GAME (aka 100%).

That’s my gamer brag of the day, which I should temper by mentioning that I tried playing the game again 10 years ago and struggled mightily.

I’m replaying Hollow Knight after finishing it for the first time about 20 months ago. I thought it would get tiring or too familiar seeing as I finished it recently but it’s just as fun the second time around. I may even be willing to say it’s one of my all-time favorite games. The music, the story, the combat, the different interchangeable charms, it’s nearly a perfect game IMO.

I agree, especially the base game. Did you make it through Godhome? I ran out of steam on trying to clear one of the pantheons.

Is that the area where you replay the bosses but they’re harder? I didn’t really try that the first time around. However, this time through some bosses I severely struggled with the first time I’m beating with ease. Like the Mantis Lords were a pain in the ass, took me like 15 tries first time through, but I beat it last week in only 2. I think I’m just better than before and know what to expect. Maybe I’ll give that a shot when I get there later.

Man, when you get the pattern down for the mantis lords, the dance like flow of the fight is incredible. Went from initially frustrating to one of my favorite boss fights.

One one part of it is replaying the bosses with different stages of difficulty: normal, harder, and harder with one hit kills you. I don't know if there is a particular reward for that, but it helps for practicing. The other portion of it is the pantheons, where you have to beat a bunch of the bosses in a row without dying. Give it a shot, you may do better than me.

You might be able to succeed. Think I beat him around the same level range as a mage. Not sure you have to find other NPCs for them to be at the festival. If you’ve completed Limgrave, Liurnia, and lower Caelid, then the Radahan fight is a good next step.

Thats awesome!

Back in late hs i got really into speedrunning and this was the one game i attempted to do. Never could finish a run but some of the old tricks still help alot! My pb would be around 7ish hours though this time it took me alittle longer for some reason even though i felt like i wasnt wasting any time (except for engine room and mr. vile which fucked me up)

Got to play some more Final Fantasy 7 Remake and some Elden Ring this weekend. I'm really loving FF7R so far, I just completed the game up through the motorcycle part, which was awesome and ridiculous in the best ways. I love how just about every aspect of this game takes the original carefully into consideration. There's a ton of little details that pay tribute to the original, while modernizing things and improving obvious limits that the original had.
Not a console guy so waited for FFVII to hit PC. Enjoying it so far. Like the modernized controls mixed with the old mechanics. Guess they've been like that for FF games. Haven't played the original in forever - this seems much more details sprinkled in so that's cool. I'm hearing this is 1/4th the original game's story though??

Anyone know what's going on here. Ratchet & Clank Fift Apart broke for me tonight. I have 15 hours of game play into this game without issue so far and now the game looks like this. Even after rebooting the PS5, turning the TV on and off. Replacing the HDMI cable. Other games still look good.
