Everything Video Games!

$2.99 through the 23rd 👀

I'm setting a goal for myself to play every game on this list by the end of the year.
Love seeing Control/Jessie at #1. Can't recommend this game enough. Surprised female Shepard from Mass effect didn't make the list for Jennifer Hale's VA abilities alone.

I need to get back into that. I was playing it a lot last year on Game Pass, but now the Xbox got moved into my teenagers room so I never get to play it.
Same, I beat the main game, but didn't do the DLCs because I also played through Game Pass. I picked up the Ultimate Edition a while back for PC when it was being given away, so it's on the to-replay list.

Repost from the pre-order thread – a bunch of the lo-fi game music mixes are up at LITA:

Feel like I've been flying through Elden Ring lately. Could just be I've had some more time lately to play it. Since my last post about it I've beaten Radhan, Rykard, Astel, Morgott, Godfrey, Mimic Tear, Godskin Noble, Mohg, and as far as main and achievement tied bosses go. I've been through Mt. Gelmir and Leyendell, and started towards Mountaintops of the Giants, stopping at the lift to backtrack and do some side quests. I think the one who gave me the most trouble was Rykard. I won't spoil too much, but I did pick up on the queue and read where I should have read. That said, I really struggled with the second phase, not sure if I got bad luck or what, but I found most of my attempts getting stalled by having to dodge constant waves of the skulls. The one I won had significantly less of that than the other attempts. I'm certainly way over leveled (112 currently). I straight axed Morgott and Godfrey's respective heads in. Got Godfrey in one, and Morgott in 2 - got greedy the first time and wasn't watching health.

That being said, I did really struggle with a different boss. After I beat Radhan, I ran around that huge area and found a dungeon in the way back. There's a Corrupted Tree Sentinel there, and it kicked my ass many times before I finally beat it. I was level 83 at the time, with almost 40 vigor, and he was doing over half my health for the bigger hits, claw swiped was doing about 1/3.

Another though, how anyone figured out any questline in the game without a guide is beyond me. This weekend I worked on quests for Seluvis, Dung Eater, Jar-Bairn, Hyetta, Blaidd/Ranni, Nepheli/Kenneth, and Milicent. I heavily used guides, becuase there were parts of each I could not figure out. Blaidd's was my own fault, I missed the first trek to Siofra on accident by going to Redmane Castle by mistake. Hyetta's quest though, I would have never figured out. I beat the area that leads to the final phase of her quest before I progressed her quest enough that I would have been able to enter the area. There's little to no indication of where this character will go next, so I would have never found it. Anyways, I completed the quests I could, the rest are waiting for me to progress through the Mountaintops of the Giants, or to Progress Ranni's quest, which is on hold so it doesn't mess with others. Dung Eater and Hyetta are especially weird quests. I really like how they wrapped up Nepheli and Kenneht Haight, this portion got patched in and was well worth it in my opinion.

Feel like I'm rambling now, so I'll end here. Sounds like I'm on my way to Malenia, looking forward to the misery.

I was on the same run as you. I'm a little bit further into Mountaintops of the giants, and let me say that run is at it's end. Place sucks.

Yeah, I've heard some horror stories. Just curious, is ranged any help around there? I do use a crossbow from time to time and I've found as I've progressed it's gotten more and more helpful with thinning and luring.

Yes and just about everywhere else in the later levels. Seems like enemies get 100x more aggressive and love to tag team you. For melee builds rot arrows can make some areas and enemies easier to thin out.

I had a feeling things were about to take a turn for the harder after going through Lleyendel. I was still doing stupid damage to most bosses, but the knights, troll-ish guys, and those damn rogues with the multishot explosive crossbows were doing higher than expected damage. I can only imagine what I'm about to face.

One suggestion I’d offer is try and boost your vigor to as close 60 as possible, it will help to have a larger health pool

I'm currently at 45, as long as the runes keep getting handed out like Halloween candy it won't take too long. I do have a large reserve of runes that I had been saving until I hit a wall, might need to cash those in soon.

I treated myself to Dark Souls: Remastered last weekend for $40 because I didn’t think it was going to change in price anytime soon…. Then I get this email today 😭

I was thinking the same about Consecrated Snowfields.

I haven't played this in a while, I was at the end of my second run through the game, but it still amazes me how most bosses aren't a challenge anymore at the level I'm at (somewhere about 250) but then a random encounter just wipes me out.

Got Jedi Fallen Order this weekend, and the action is fun-ish (blocking is wonky), but the map…oof. I ventured to the bottom of the second planet, only for my objective to change to getting back to my ship. I spent maybe an hour fumbling, backtracking, and constantly checking the map. I didn’t even get back to the ship; I just managed to reach the surface before giving up for the evening.

I don’t quite know how to describe it, but a lot of modern games manage to simultaneously overexplain puzzles/objectives, while also visually obscuring paths in dark, samey environments that are infuriating to backtrack.

I do think my gaming needs/expectations are completely narrow and specific in my older age, but these games do so many things that just make my eyes glaze over.
