Everything Video Games!

I don’t know much about this series but am a big JRPG fan. Can I get a brief summary before I start Googling/YouTubing like crazy?
Persona is a spin-off of a series called Shin Megami Tensei, which itself was a sort of Pokemon-with-demons before Pokemon was a thing. Persona takes those creature-collection aspects and dungeon crawling, adds a different (equally great) turn-based combat system, and tacks on a visual-novel-like social sim half to the game.

So, for example, in Persona 4, you are a high schooler in a small Japanese town, and a supernatural murder mystery is unfolding. You split your time between adventuring in dungeons at night and attending school and socializing with your friends during the day. Each of the game's 'Social Links' are individual storylines that you can progress or ignore throughout the game, and advancing or completing them will strengthen the abilities of certain types of Personas/demons. Meanwhile, the game's calendar moves on, so every day you spend studying for an exam is one you aren't spending getting stronger for upcoming boss battles, while every day you spend adventuring is one you're not advancing your social links or preparing for exams.

It rules.

(High school)Life simulator + turn based combat dungeon crawler.

Got Jedi Fallen Order this weekend, and the action is fun-ish (blocking is wonky), but the map…oof. I ventured to the bottom of the second planet, only for my objective to change to getting back to my ship. I spent maybe an hour fumbling, backtracking, and constantly checking the map. I didn’t even get back to the ship; I just managed to reach the surface before giving up for the evening.

I don’t quite know how to describe it, but a lot of modern games manage to simultaneously overexplain puzzles/objectives, while also visually obscuring paths in dark, samey environments that are infuriating to backtrack.

I do think my gaming needs/expectations are completely narrow and specific in my older age, but these games do so many things that just make my eyes glaze over.
I love this game, I played it on easy and just enjoyed it. Liked the writing a lot, too. I'm very much looking forward to the sequel.

I know what you mean, I think this game was trying to be an “open-world” like environment but still limited in where you can go. It felt like a Soulslike Tomb Raider game. Some of the combat and boss battles were seriously tough on normal difficulty, but overall it was pretty enjoyable.

Here's the hardware recipe I've been using for past two years in our custom PC's for events, giveaways, and marketing new games and I've not had to do any returns or RMA's.

Intel i9 10900K or 11900k CPU.
Gigabyte Z490 & Z590 Motherboard.
EVGA or Nvidia reference RTX 3060 / 3070 / 3080 series graphics card
CORSAIR 32GB Vengeance DDR4 RGB.
Intel 1TB 665p Series M.2 Drive
CORSAIR CX750F PSU
CORSAIR 240mm H100i Capellix AIO CPU Cooler.

CASES have ranged from Corsair to Fractal Design mid towers. I've been hired by both manufacturers as Consultant.

I've also built Gaming PC's from scratch, here's one of my recent designs

Why does it look like an insect?

Interesting, though honestly I’m a bit worried about how much time I could sink into a game like this (I put almost 400 hours on Fire Emblem: Three Houses). Not a recipe for a happy marriage.

A gaming update that may or may not only resonate with @Santi Chacin :
it took me 195 hours but I finally drew KOS-MOS last night!

They're long games, but due to their structure there's only so long they can take.

I treated myself to Dark Souls: Remastered last weekend for $40 because I didn’t think it was going to change in price anytime soon…. Then I get this email today 😭

Update: I'm enjoying Dark Souls for the most part. I have to use a shield a lot more than I would normally do. I'm never a shield user in games like these. Also, for a remastered game I was expecting that it'd be upgraded to a more modern graphics look and feel but I don't hate the charm of the 360 era graphics. Combat is not too challenging, and I'm trying to not use guides for this one like I did Elden Ring. It's a little bit easier to follow.

If I'm liking Dark Souls 1 and I loved Elden Ring, should I go ahead and get DS2 & 3 while they're really cheap?

2, maybe; the director is different, and the levels are more linear, which removes some of the “feel.” I don’t hate it, but I’ve also only played it twice. It has its fans.

3, definitely; it’s easier than 1, but more due to quality of life and performance fixes. Plus, the graphics are nicer than 1 and 2. I’ve played this one the most (would’ve 100%-ed had I tried earlier, while multiplayer was more populated).

Have you played Bloodborne yet? It's probably my favorite of the bunch, though I haven't played DS3 or Elden Ring yet.
I second this, especially in light of your aversion to shields; the gameplay in BB is more action-oriented. The combination of no shields and damage regeneration when you counter-attack rewards much quicker, aggressive gameplay than Souls, which can be a literal dungeon crawl.

I will blaspheme, though, and admit I’ve only played through it once.
