I finally beat Fume Knight in the DS2 DLC 🙌

Easily the hardest boss in any of the DS games I've played so far. However in DS3, I gave up after about 30 tries of Darkeater Midir because they were an optional boss. Midir is just a long, long boss fight and I had beaten the game before facing him, so I didn't feel like trying too hard to beat it after a while.

For Fume Knight I didn't think it was ever going to happen. I kept wasting human effigies to use the two summons because I did not want to solo him. I eventually had to because I was getting down to bare bones on effigies, plus having two summons increases his health pool. I tried different ring combos, different armor combos, different weapons over and over and over again. I read different reddit threads, watched youtube videos on how to do it. But what eventually worked was as easy as two-handing the Red Iron Twinblades to increase damage. Someone commented that somewhere and I tried it on the next attempt, and sure enough it worked! PITFA but it worked. I haven't felt that relieved, satisfied, cathartis over beating a videogame boss in a long time.

Still need to play DS2 myself, those big slow swings in the second phase will get me every time. Biggest struggle in Elden Ring was the big overly wound up attacks.

That was the easier part of this fight actually. There's an item you could wear that starts the fight in the second phase but I didn't do the right things earlier in the game to get that item. That would have made this fight much easier. Once you figure out how to roll/dodge in the right spaces/directions it was easier. this fight was also a struggle with stamina in the first phase because the attacks were relentless, and trying to navigate dodging and healing plus when to attack was a PITA. I needed to remove items to lower weight which enabled a faster roll with faster stamina regen.

Overall I really liked DS2. It was better than 1 even though I haven't beaten 1 yet. I liked it better than 3 because it was easier overall. I think it's underrated among DS games.

I still need to finish Metroid Prime Remastered (I'm up to the final boss) and I guess start BotW before TotK, but I can't stop playing games on the Miyoo Mini Plus. my buddy, who also got one, and I have been picking out games that we'll both play and when we're both done we alternate picking the next game. since getting the MM+ we've played through the following, all of which I've never played previously:

1. Silent Hill - PSX
2. Ninja Five-0 - GBA
3. Haunting Starting Polterguy - Genesis
4. Deadeus - GB (homebrew)
5. Ninja Spirit - TurboGrafx 16
6. Alwa's Awakening - NES (homebrew)
7. Wario Land 2 - GBC
8. Dungeons & Doom Knights - NES (homebrew)

all of these games have been so much fun to play, especially these homebrew titles... it's really cool how people continue to put out titles for these extinct consoles.

Alright I've been saying I'll get to it long enough; I'm gonna start DS3 right now!

I think I missed an earlier post but where are you playing these homebrew titles, PC?

I just recently got my Wii up on Homebrew and agreed, it's awesome. I was playing Goldeneye last night. Just ordered up a Gamecube controller though because it's kinda difficult to play with the wiimote + nunchuk

I recently got a used old, office PC which I'm using just for emulation with Batocera... but I haven't even really been using that.

mostly have been playing on this, the Miyoo Mini Plus, which will emulate up to PS1 but we've been mostly focusing on games better suited for this form factor.

i sort of wanted to get back to botw before tears comes out, but really all i have left in my save in botw is just a) get the last remaining korok seeds b) get the medals for killing all lynels and rock monsters and c) fully upgrading all of link’s outfits

at this point, i dont think i’ll do that anytime soon since i still wanna experience tears completely fresh. im wondering how going back to botw will feel after tears comes out, if it’ll still feel just as good

Have you finished the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 DLC story yet??? That’s what I’m trying to accomplish before TOTK.

not yet, literally at the last boss rn lol. but i got sick this week, so we’ll see when i get to complete it.

will update once i do!

finally beat Prime Remastered last night and jumped right into BotW and despite having started and abandoned it twice I couldn't believe how quickly it sucked me in and how much more I was enjoying it than I ever recalled liking it. I didn't put in a ton of time, I got off the Great Plateau before calling it quits last night and am currently en route to the first village you're told to visit.

hopefully I will see the game through this time, but it's going to be tough once TotK releases... if I play through them both it'll be the year of epic, open world, action RPGs for me since I played Elden Ring earlier in the year

has anyone pre-ordered anything from Best Buy before? Will it ship prior to the release date or after? waiting 5-7 days will be excruciating

I ordered this 2 years ago before it even had a title 💀. Also I believe I used a guest order/account because when I log into my Best Buy account I cannot find it. I recieved an update email last fall with additional release date info, and of course an update to say it has an actual title (lol) so I think it should come.

nice job locking it in at $60! not sure what their shipping is like, I have always done in-store pickups as there's always been one around anywhere I lived/worked...

I've definitely officially got further in BotW than any previous play though... got 2 divine beasts done, got most of the towers, a couple of memories... currently working on the remaining towers and some more shrines to work towards getting the Master Sword. I'm still terrible at the Test Of Strength, especially the harder ones but I'm hoping having more heart containers and better weapons (Master Sword?) will help with those.

I don't think I'm on track to beat BotW before TotK arrives, but I'm very glad I'm finally playing though BotW (even if it is a bit of a speed run and using some guides)

Previously when I have preordered enough in advance from Best Buy, it would arrive on the release date. They used to have a My Best Buy program that got you like 20% off new games (RIP)

Yeah some of the harder tests of strength are rough. One hit and you get like 5 hearts taken off. Make sure you find a fairy fountain (there is one close to Kakariko Village) so you can upgrade your armor. That also helps make the later game easier and of course having much better weapons. I also found that Revali's Gale makes treversing the landscape significantly easier. On my second playthrough last year I went to beat that Devine Beast first.
