Everything Video Games!

Ok, gonna gripe about Pokemon Pocket a bit more. It really irks me that the wonder pick-based mass outbreak event ends tomorrow.

I've just now spent the last of my wonder pick stamina without a single Zapdos EX, and I won't regain three hearts before the event ends at midnight.

The only way we as players can currently learn an event is coming up to stock up on creds for is through unofficial datamine leaks, so hosting an unannounced wonder pick event when many folks' creds are already depleted is just plain super shitty. I for one had bought and spent all the wonder pick credits I could for the month before this event even began.

It would be much less shitty if they bled the event over into the new month for folks who have shop tickets and nothing left to burn them on until the monthly shop stock refresh. All I want is an extra day or two for a fair shot at a Zapdos Ex because the typical rate of wonder pick stamina refill is too damn slow on its own for rare pick events like this. Super disappointing.

I finally finished the main story of God of War: Ragnarok last night. What a game! Gorgeous, exciting, emotionally engaging...everything you want in a great single-person game. I want to go back and find every missing artifact and upgrade every item just to spend more time in the world.

I know some of you picked it up recently so here's a friendly nudge to make it a 2025 priority.

Also, I know it has been said before, but it is one hell of an accomplishment to re-imagine that character and his story--which I thoroughly enjoyed playing as a rage monster for three games--into a rumination on parenthood, grief, redemption and choice that also kicks ass to play.

That, Astro Bot and Spiderman 2 were my BF purchases. Working through SM2 right now and probably go to Astro Bot next. Likely won't get to Ragnarok until after Monster Hunter has had its way with me in Feb. But I've been jonesing to get to Ragnarok.

I've been itching to play Spiderman 2 as well. It's between that, Jedi Survivor and Hogwarts Legacy for my next playthrough. And typing that out makes me realize how little good original IP there has been of late....

Spider-Man is very fun and I can play it just dicking around and doing side quests if I don’t have the time or brainpower for more.

ok, im very excited to share with you guys my newest fun lil project that i have tinkered with the past two months. soo, around october, i found a gba for sale for like $30. the console was in fantastic condition!! literally the only blemish was a slight scratch inside the screen. everything else was working great!!

now, i grew up with the sp model, so i was only vaguely familiar with the shortcomings of the original model (i.e. no backlight on the screen, and loud hum/buzz from the console when wearing headphones). but having been inspired by videos on youtube of people modding their gba consoles, i knew i wanted to take my own spin at it!!

so first thing needed to do was fix the sound. im aware that the console produces such sound due to the way the console was built at the time and this was just a natural byproduct. i still felt like there should have been a modern-day solution to this problem. and there is; albeit not a 100% noise-reduction fix-all, this dehum kit does reduce the buzz a good amount. installing this onto the console was tricky though, so much so that i didn’t even do it, my dad who is an expert at soldering was the one who did the job. but even he struggled a bit with how tiny the pins on the motherboard are for this particular kit. i was hoping he was gonna teach me how to solder for this one, but after seeing first-hand the process of putting this kit on the unit, i think it was a good call that he did it himself for this one. i’ll learn how to solder for something more simple next time.
here’s pics of before and after installing the kit

everything else was super simple, it was just a matter of putting everything back together like a puzzle. i had to wait a good while for the new custom-UV printed shell that i ordered. besides the shell, everything else was a new replacement. New screen, new buttons, new membranes, i even ordered a new back sticker with a custom design on it. here’s a pic of all the materials set apart ready for assemble.

the new screen is an ips screen upgrade from hispeedido, the screen has optional soldering cables for a manual setup of the controls, but i opted out for those since the screen itself also has touch controls which i found to be cooler to use. now, something that is a bit confusing with these ips upgrades is finding a right shell for it. since i wanted an specific design to be uv printed on the shell, i had to order an specific unit from Retro Game Repair Shop. tbh, im still not sure if the shell i bought for was the best pick since everything put back together fits a lil tight, but the console works completely fine when assembled so it works out in the end for me at least.

the cherry on top for me was that i was able to make my own version of what a Xenoblade-themed GBA would look like. i used the uv printed red shell for the front with gold d-pad and a/b buttons and emerald green membranes, triggers and bumpers to match Pyra’s aegis sword’s color palette. for the back, i used an extremeRate made matte-black shell which gives the console a nice soft touch finish, giving it a premium feel. i tried basing it off the switch pro xenoblade-themed controller, and it ended up looking very nice!!! overall, i am super happy with the end result and glad to have this be a part of my console repertoire now!!!

Apparently wonder picks can come in different languages but hey, I got one of the cards I was missing
Some rando who added me when I first started gets their boosters in French, so I occasionally grab some of their cards on a whim.

If you ever exchange extra cards for flair, the app lets you decide which language sets to pull from so you don't accidentally give up a fun alt.

My son has mainly played Marvel Rivals and Astro Bot since Christmas, and I'm having my first Playstation experience since playing a ton of FF VII and Twisted Metal at a friend's house 20 years ago by playing the Horizon Zero Dawn remaster. After 5 years of playing games on the Switch, these graphics are a bit of an upgrade!

The horizon games are so great! The FFVII remaster are pretty fun too.

Was there some glitch in the matrix this weekend with TCGP? Got some incredible pulls opening packs to hit the 100 card mission.
Almost back to back to back:
Bulbasaur and Golbat Full Arts
Pikachu EX Full Art
Marshadow Full Art
Celebi Ex Full Art x2

What is this Wonderpick / Chancy pick even that's going on today? I don't see anything in the news section, and I keep getting event shop tickets that can't be used on anything in the store. There also appears to be no missions associated with it?

Bug / Event start early?

The bonus picks are active but the event announcement is tomorrow. With it will come a shop update with Blue/Blastoise art items — so take those picks and get a head start on event tix!

Edit: I think this might also be a 2-part event, so half of new items tomorrow, half later.
