Wed 17 – Better than Bob?
What’s your best reggae record, Marley or otherwise?
I don't think I have any raggae albums on vinyl so I go with a sample.
Lauryn Hill "The miseducation of Lauryn Hill"
Over a minimal boom-bap beat, Hill talks openly to an ex after a breakup and gets everything off her chest. Sister Nancy's “Bam Bam” sample is heard in the refrain of the song and after the second verse.

Sunn O))) - Life Metal
I was told by a number of concert-goers that during their shows, the stage venue becomes enraptured and fully cloaked in dry ice, to the point where you are unable to see your outstretched arms. Each of their guitar/bass notes are supposed to ring out so loud that you can not only just hear but feel the vibrations from each note/chord change. Like...being sucker-punched with brick walls of sound. Having never been to a metal/hardcore/other abrasive music concert prior to Daughters/Lingua Ignota, where I was told all of this information, I was unsure about how to feel about a concert experience akin to that.
Over a year later? It's safe to say that I want that. More than ever now.
I don't have any reggae in my collection, unfortunately (gonna stream some later), but a few songs on this record are very much in the style, particularly "The Guns of Brixton." Even the title track's rhythm guitar is very reggae-y, just fast. My best friend was a huge Marley fan in high school and we bonded over our idolization of him and Strummer.
Day 17:Better than Bob?
What’s your best reggae record, Marley or otherwise? Culture - Two Sevens Clash Few things lift the spirit better than a wonderful Reggae album and this is a good one.
In hindsight, I should have just played live albums all month as that's what I'm in the mood for right now. There's other reggae albums I love - The Harder They Come, Two Sevens Clash, Jacob Miller, African Herbsman by Bob - but I'll play this, my most recent grab. Bob had so much energy when he played and his bands were always so well drilled. This is such a great gig.
I'm terrible at thinking of bands/groups with certain numbers, but I thought of this group and I haven't spun this in forever. Wonder if they are working on anything new.

Phyllis Dillon - One Life To Live
She’s always been one of my favorites. I love this record. You know it’s going to be good when they can’t even spell the actual artist’s name correctly on the cover.
