February 2021 Challenge (& Raffle)

Sorry, if your other gets scooped lemme know. I can run an audible. I have...more than two.
Haha I appreciate it! I'll just start now...

Sat 6 – Luxuriate

Various Artists - Day of the Dead

Probably my most played compilation ever, and certainly one of my most played albums in the last several years. Almost single-handedly put me on the path to Deadheadism, 10 discs and almost six hours of amazing covers.

Day 6 - Luxuriate

Was between this and the Day of the Dead box (thankfully @BjorgenFjorgen made my decision easy). This is a box of two different shows at the Rainbow in ‘74 - one early in the year supporting Queen II and one later for Sheer Heart Attack. It’s cool to hear the the overlapping songs and how the performances differ in the same calendar year.

Day 5 – Cheapskate

Fernando Viciconte - The Pacoima Radio Sessions

Getting this one up a day late. It is my lowest max on discogs, but that is largely due to the fact that Fernando is not all that well known outside of the Pacific Northwest. Originally from Argentina, he has lived in Portland since 1994. A bit of a troubadour, with an iconic voice, he has been on the cusp of stardom several times, but never quite broke through. He was inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame in 2016.

I'm curious about this one, my family being from Argentina and all.
Definitely will check it out.

Day 7: We're Gonna Celebrate...

I wouldn't say I have an anthem, but this makes for a good album to spin at a gathering.

Sun 7 – Celebration: Kool & The Gang hit number 1 today in 1981. Play your ultimate party anthem.

The Weeknd - After Hours

I don't know that I really have an ultimate party anthem, but tonight The Weeknd is bringing the party at the Super Bowl! Really looking forward to his performance!

The party anthem for wild debauchery? After Hours ranked high on my year-end list, but the more I hear it, the more I love it. It will have some staying power over the years I think. The storyline started to click with me at some point around the holidays and it turned the whole thing into this engrossing dark cinematic whole for me. And that side C... is there a better record side released all year?

One of the things I miss the most right now is the casual get togethers. For me, that was hanging out with friends in their garage and playing ping pong, and having a communal playlist going. Invariably That's All would show up on the playlist. So maybe not the Ultimate Party Anthem, but certainly one that sticks with me and the first one that came to mind.
