Fresh Grabs

Nice haul! Tell me more about those gospel records.

P.S. Welcome to the forum!
Thanks! It's all gospel soul/funk. The Artistic Sounds has been on my wantlist for a while now (like 10+ years). It's not particularly rare or expensive, just finally pulled the trigger. Eddie Robinson has a more sought after album, but this one is pretty good, too (and much cheaper!). Still have to spin the Sammie Cheatam, but he has one of my favorite gospel 45s (listen to this!) - so figured the album's worth a shot. I have a 45 by the Bell Jubilee Singers that's decent with songs from this album, so figured it was worth a pickup for $5.

I had my VMP packages arriving yesterday. All records look fine from the outside. I'm excited what they will sound like.

The Doors AP "L. A. woman"
Nina Simone AP "Little girl blue"
Sampa the Great "The return"
MF Doom "MM. Food"

The Internet "Hive mind" and
Our N&G record of the month chosen by @Yer Ol' Uncle D
15-60-75 The Numbers Band "Jimmy Bell's still in town"

The Grateful Dead - Workingman's Dead
Baby Huey - The Baby Huey Story / The Living Legend

Both courtesy of @Crabbers, the first via an awesome PIF, the second through sale. I'm not enough of a fan to acquire audiophile pressings of the Dead so this B&N pressing serves me well. A Chris Bellman cut and it sounds great!

I kick myself for sleeping on Baby Huey. It's the old adage of "if you want something, buy it now and don't wait for it to sell out or go out-of-print." @Crabbers was kind enough to sell it to me for a fair price but I still paid more than retail.

Khruangbin - Maria También (7")
BSCBR - Master Of Rehearsal (7")

Con Todo El Mundo is my least-favorite Khruangbin but Maria También is my favorite song on the record. They're a hometown band and I've been seeing them live since they were playing in front of 50 people so I consider myself a patron, if not a completist (although I'm a few titles shy). It's unfortunate the song has been sold for beer commercials but I can't fault them for getting it while the getting is good.

BSCBR is an all-star Sabbath cover band and they sound goooood. Female vocalist. This 7-incher is heavy. The Sweet Leaf echo opener is hilarious and their take on the song rips. Fairies Wear Boots is my favorite Sabbath song so their cover brings a lot of joy. Check out the tunes on their Bandcamp.

I grabbed one of the limited hand-pour starburst (each one is unique) and it is gorgeous. Picture doesn't do it justice.

Returning home from holiday usually sucks but at least receiving all these records cheered me up!

Filling the holes in my UK modern jazz collection after waiting for good deals on these I was happy to find Maisha and Shabaka and the Ancestors for cheap on discogs..

.. Finally picked up Black Focus and Mansur Brown's Shiroi from the hhv sale. Also on sale was the PP pressing of Glass Bead Games which I've wanted for a long time. There was a really cheap copy of Kind of Blue so I decided to cop it as well since the discogs reviews seemed decent (and it looks pretty). I also picked up Morti Viventear's sophomore album that hast got a screen printed sleeve.

IC 9 arrived... supposedly they've changed their pressing plant to ensure better sounding vinyl but they crammed all 3 discs into one jacket so who knows of they're going to be warped. Schrödinger's Record situation until I break the seal on it I guess.

I was amazed how cheap Fat Possum was able to ship me this exclusive of Thickfreakness. It looks like they have a distributor in Sweden so that's cool. I've never actually heard this album before but I know a lot of people rave about it so I figured it's worth checking out at that price.

Finally I recently discovered an indie German label Tonzonen Records (tonzonen.de) that releases really unique music. It's post rock/ psych/ space rock/ kraut etc. all pressed at Pallas and they have some really cool pressings. Those of you that say VMP can't get good quality coloured pressings with gatefolds should note Tonzonen prices these at 20€.

The Legendary Flower Punk's Wabi Wu is a real trip and I recommend checking it out...hard to even nail down a genre as it seems to switch with every track. I said "wtf" several times but really enjoyed it:

My first haul from an actual record shop in 6-month. I visited Ben's Records in Guildford at the weekend and picked up a handful of records. It was nice to actually chat to people about records. I talked to a guy who had a little record stall outside of the shop for a good 20-minutes before I asked to pay for these. He ended up giving be a big discount as well, which you dont really get shopping online! I also picked up a stack of 'record cards'. I have been thinking of filling out a card for each record I get, just to log where I bought it, how much ect.

Phineas Newborn Jr. - Here Is Phineas (Atlantic Records, 1966? Pressing - sealed)
Charles Mingus - Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus (His Masters Voice, 1964 First UK Mono Pressing)
Weather Report - Black Market (CBS, 1976 First Pressing)
Anthony Braxton - The Complete Braxton (Black Lion/Freedom, 1973 First Pressing)

Got the new Sneaks record in as well as a 🔥 PIF from @scotthilk (thanks again!)

Unfortunately it appears the journey wasn't very kind to Sneaks... 🤦‍♀️😑

After putting it under a book for a bit, the bend is significantly lessened. Still some visible creasing but don't feel like bothering to send it back for something that appears to be purely cosmetic (I don't think it affected the record... I'll find out when I spin it later I guess). So... happy ending? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
