Fresh Grabs

August Acquisitions

I only added three new items into the library halfway through August. Naturally, that number increased significantly in the days spanning from DeepDiscount arrivals plus RSD.

RSD pickups

Billie Eilish - Live at Third Man Records
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony - Creepin On Ah Come Up
Charli XCX - Vroom Vroom EP
Charlie Parker - Jazz at Midnite
Denzel Curry - Bulls on Parade [7"]

For me, the crown jewel of this set is the Charli XCX EP: the only "must have" on my list from this year's drops. Many thanks again to @Ericj32 for helping me secure one. I am forever indebted!

Jazz pickups

Joe Henderson - The State of the Tenor (Live From the Village Vanguard Vol. 1)
Robert Glasper - Canvas
John Scofield - Hand Jive

Henderson was a preorder from the Target B2G1 craziness and didn't even set me back $18.
Both of these 2xLP BN80 titles were nabbed from the DeepDiscount blowout bin for under $10 each. Glasper is far and away my favorite of the two.

Current Year pickups

Khemmis - Doomed Heavy Metal
Laura Marling - Song For Our Daughter (signed)

20200901_003326.jpg

I got this Khemmis EP from RSD on blind buy at 2nd Ave Records believing it was an RSD title, as there were several copies facing customers in their own bin the same size as the other bins with mixed RSD titles. This release is pretty rad, with 15 minutes of studio material on Side A, and a 23 minute live performance on the flip side.
Laura Marling's latest is my introduction to her, and I am smitten. Make no mistake, it'll place near the top on my year end list.

Miscellaneous pickups

Billie Eilish - Don't Smile at Me
Dead Can Dance - Within the Realm of a Dying Sun
Dorian Electra - Flamboyant (signed)
Erykah Badu - Baduizm
Hannah Diamond - Reflections (signed)
Max Richter - From Sleep

Thank you to the user who suggested to check our local Target for clearance on select vinyl; found the Billie Eilish EP for $5.38.
DCD was added to my DeepDiscount cart to get to free shipping. Fantastic atmosphere presented on this album...like being in an eerie cathedral.
Dorian Electra and Hannah Diamond were pricey signed edition electropop releases, with Hannah's coming with TEN 24"x24" posters!
Erykah Badu was a void now filled, and this Max Richter 2xLP compliments the Vivaldi N&G RotM from a few months ago.

Your RSD pickups are all 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Love the Erykah Badu and Dorian Electra pickups as well! 👌

I am intrigued by your music taste because you are obsessed with the majestic Julia Holter yet pickup some Bone Thugs-N-Harmony! 👀

My best single package so far this year, and this will be my last great massive audiophile shipment for a long time as I can’t splurge anymore! This one was from Acoustic Sounds and I can’t wait to spin all of them! 💎🤗

@Joe Mac - I made sure I got the Mono 45RPM presses for the Bob Dylan! Looking really, really forward to spinning those two classics! 😊
Damnnnnnn @NathanRicaud! What a killer haul

To be honest, I tried to help out others on this forum (while still being money conscientious), so the Bone Thugs-N-Harmony is still sealed! I'm wondering how to go forward with getting this in the hands of an N&G'er who desires it.

Same here. I grabbed The Weeknd and Denzel 7'' RSD exclusives (still waiting for a shipping notice though) and, since it seems some of you guys are still after these, I plan to sell both at cost + shipping. I'll post once I have the records in hands.

That makes a lot of sense now! That’s so nice and caring of you to do that Rip City! Especially as that Bone Thugs-N-Harmony is already expensive to get on Discogs! Happy that someone on here will get a copy of that album! It’s a great sounding pressing! 👌

Again, so nice of you to be doing this! Very happy again that someone who really wants this but won’t have to pay Discogs prices will get these! ☺️

Haven’t listened at all yet, will report back.

My Secretly pink glass variant came today. On first spin it seems better than the white, but this is still a rough listen. Real crispy on the top end in too many places. To be fair, i don't totally love the overall sound on Spotify either. This might just be an album I have to live with for a while. The problems with the recording quality really take me out of the songs here. And I was literally just listening to Sebadoh demos on the way home, so it's not like I can't appreciate the lo-fi generally...

UPDATE: Spinning the white disc again, I guess they are about the same. The pink seems a little smoother. I did remember that there is a switch on my gain stage that provides a more "relaxed" voicing. I'd never used it before, but today is the day! It helps.

The "Smaller"/"More Than This" 7" that came with the Secretly variant sounds great, of course. I guess I can just play that on repeat instead of the album.
