Fresh Grabs

I suddenly have a mound of 18 LPs to clean. How did this happen?

I was caught up on new additions but now i have a stack of 48 plus some records from the Spin Clean days that need a clean and reserve because Analogue Seduction apparently didn't have the VPI replacement cleaning brush in stock after all and 6 weeks later it still hasn't shipped 😒

Just a few this week:

A couple of Amazon pre-orders came in. I thought I had a handle on all of my pre-orders, but I totally forgot I ordered the Mariah Carey 😂

A couple of original pressings from discogs came in, too. I've held off on buying a reissue of the J5 since original copies can usually be found for similar prices - finally found one in great condition. I love some Barbara Acklin, usually really good sweet soul.

I havent posted my fresh grabs in a couple of weeks, so here they are.

Bill Evans - Some Other Time: The Lost Session From The Black Forest (Resonance Records, 2020 RSD Limited Pressing)
The Jimmy Giuffre 3 & 4 ‎– New York Concerts (Elemental Music, 2020 RSD Limited Pressing)
Charles Mingus ‎– Mingus Ah Um (CBS, 2020 RSD Deluxe 60th Anniversary Pressing)
Maisha - Open The Gates (Brownswood, 2020 RSD Limited EP Pressing)
Fleetwood Mac - The Alternate Rumours (Warner Bros, 2020 RSD Limited Pressing)
Don Cherry - Cherry Jam (Gearbox Records, 2020 RSD Limited 45RPM Pressing)

This is the result of my RSD September haul apart from the Neil Swainson Quintet - 49th Parallel which I am waiting on (my local annoyingly had it listed in stock without having it in hand, and are now refusing to cancel). Theres a killer mix here and I have to say that I am thoroughly impressed with all of them which I have listened to so far!

Miles Davis & John Coltrane ‎– Play Richard Rodgers (Prestige, 1964 First Stereo Pressing)
Miles Davis ‎– Kind Of Blue (CBS, 1968 UK Stereo Pressing - Misprint)
Jimmy Smith ‎– Monster (Verve Records, 1965 First UK Stereo Pressing)
Miles Davis ‎– You're Under Arrest (CBS, 1985 First Europe Stereo Pressing)
Art Blakey And His Jazz Messengers - S/T (World Records/Impulse, 1961 First UK Pressing)
Rob Koral / Chris Mills / Paul Rogers / Geoff Serle ‎– Rising (View, 1980 First Limited German Pressing)
Horace Silver ‎– Silver 'n' Percussion (Blue Note, 1978 First UK Stereo Pressing)
Nina Simone ‎– The Artistry Of Nina Simone (RCA, 1983 Compilation Pressing)
Stanley Clarke ‎– Stanley Clarke (Atlantic, 1974 First UK Stereo Pressing)
Michel Legrand Featuring Phil Woods With Ron Carter, Grady Tate And George Davis ‎– Recorded Live At Jimmy's (RCA, 1975 First UK Stereo Pressing)
Jimmy McGriff, Lucky Thompson, George Freeman, O'Donel Levy ‎– Concert Friday The 13th Cook County Jail (Groove Merchant, 1973 First Stereo Pressing)

This is the result of 2-3 carboot trips (with some being added this morning. I paid around £1 on average for these, and got quite a bargain in some cases. The only one here that I bought to resell or trade is the Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue. It turns out that this is a somewhat rare misprint (selling for quite a pretty penny online). The 'Rising' intrigues me as its an obscure German free-jazz record which was released in super low numbers - @Mr Moore are you familiar with any of the line-up on this one?

Thelonious Monk - The Complete Black Lion And Vogue Recordings (Mosaic Records, 1985 Limited Box Set Pressing)
I was keeping my eyes peeled for this one for a while and jumped at it when I saw it. Its a great 4lp set which looks to be in fantastic condition!

Yaam x HHV Set
A fantastic set which @Jan sent over from Berlin as part of the European T-Shirt Swap. I absolutely love it and its certainly one I will be wearing a lot. Whats more, he also upgrade to get me the set which includes a poster and 7" record, with the French hip-hop Pumpkin & Vin's Da Cuero on the A-Side and Ethio-jazz The Polyversal Souls on the B-Side! Thanks so much again buddy!

Not familiar at all with that one. Your carboot trips are always fruitful, I'm going to have to start seeking these out!

Damn. ......Just, damn. 🍻

That Alice Phoebe Lou is one of my absolute favorites. Gets a LOT of spin time around here, great pick up!
That's great to hear. I've only really listened to her Live at Funkhaus album, which is fantastic! But I'm convinced she's a star, or should be, so I'm looking forward to this one. Thanks for the feedback!

Got to see her live in December here in LA and she was easily one of the most naturally gifted and magnetic performers I’ve ever witnessed. She just posted on IG today that her next album is done too so soak up Paper Castles, new stuff soon come!

check this vid out if you have a spare 22 mins:

I would love to see her live. From the videos I've watched she seems incredibly dynamic, and I agree with you about her natural abilities and magnetism. I know she busked for a long time, and I can believe she would have been incredible. Oh, and thanks for the link! I'll check it out.

Man, the sound quality in that video is terrific. And her voice, a unique blending of completely free-spirited and classically trained. Also doesn't hurt that she's surrounded herself with a really talented group of musicians. Thanks again!
