Roedelius - Selbstportrait Wahre Liebe
Hans-Joachim Roedelius - Tape Archive Essence 1973-1978
These albums are an absolute joy. Anyone with interest in early electronic Eno should check these out ASAP. Selbstportrait Wahre Liebe is the more accessible of the two but both are highly recommended. And Bureau B has more Roedelius reissues coming.
Cluster āā Zuckerzeit
Inoyama Land āā Danzindan-Pojidon
Cluster is Roedelius's classic space rock project with Dieter Moebius, although Zuckerzeit is decidely not space rock. It's groundbreaking electro-pop that anticipates the arrival of Kraftwerk's elctro-pop classic Autobahn, which was released a few months later.
Danzindan-Pojidon is Inoyama Land's classic Japanese electronic ambient/environmental (kankyÅ ongaku) album from 1983.
Oded Tzur āā Here Be Dragons
Avishai Cohen āā Big Vicious
ECM jazz! Oded Tzur is a NYC-based Israeli tenor saxophonist who honed his chops in the Tel Aviv jazz scene of the 2000s. But interestingly he studied under Indian grandmaster classical flutist Hariprasad Chaurasia to learn techniques he could apply to saxophone. With these influences, Tzur's jazz is intoxicating and one-of-kind.
Avishai Cohen is an Israeli trumpeter who approaches jazz from an electro/contemporary perspective with nods to contemporary rock and pop. He includes two interesting covers with his original compositions on this record: Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata(!), and a haunting rendition of Massive Attack's Teardop.
Both records are fantastic and highly recommended.
