Fresh Grabs

These took so long to arrive that I was kinda scared they’d got lost!

Also one of my favourite recent vinyl developments. If you buy a new release direct from Warners it no longer comes in shrink, just in one of these funky recyclable paper bags! Kudos!

I have a handful of records which are still making their way to me but all sense of timing has gone out of the window witch the Christmas rush.

Tubby Hayes - The Complete Fontana Albums 1961-1969 (Fontana, 2019 Limited Box Set)
I have been on a big Tubby Hayes binge lately, spurred on by reading his fantastic biography by Simon Spillett. I saw this box set announced a while ago but as I already have a few OG pressings of them I decided against getting it. That was until @Mr Moore pointed out that it was on sale at a local-ish shop for a really great price (worked out at around £8 per record!) and I ended up getting it. It's by Gearbox records and I believe they are all AAA. Its a super quality set, with a thick matte box (with textured tape edged) that has a sturdy inner box as well.

Bill Evans - Live At Ronnie Scott’s (Resonance Records, 2020 Limited RSD Pressing)
George Coleman - In Baltimore (Reel To Real, 2020 Limited RSD Black Friday Pressing)
Barney Wilen Quartet feat. Tete Montoliu – Grenoble ’88 (Elemental Records, 2020 Limited RSD Black Friday Pressing)
Joe Jackson - Body And Soul (A&M Records, 1984 First Pressing)
Ray Charles - Modern Sounds In Country And Western Music (His Master's Voice, 1962 First Mono Pressing)
Ron Jefferson Choir ‎– S/T (International Polydor Production, 2020 Sam Record Pressing)
Tenderlonious - Ragas From Lahore, Improvisations With Jaubi (22a, 2020 First Pressing)

The final RSD records arrived and they are fantastic (so far!). I mentioned over on the Cafe thread that I have a new local shop (for the first time ever actually!) I popped down there at the weekend for their opening and picked up a t-shirt and the Joe Jackson. I then went down there again today (it's a 5min walk) with my girlfriend for lunch as the record shop is in the corner of a cafe, and I ended up picking up the Tenderlonious (again.......@Mr Moore is to blame!). I also visited another record shop at the weekend and picked up the Ray Charles, which I was interested in ever since the VMP was announced. Finally, the latest from Sam Records arrived which I cant wait to dig into!

Also, yesterdays haul, which I've sleeved but still not had a chance to listen to.

A few Pure Pleasure Test Pressings, the new Nat Birchall & an interesting looking Pharoah Sanders (which came with some RSD Black Friday titles which I haven't photographed).

Last couple of weeks:

First up, most of my PIFsgiving records came in! Thanks to everyone who participated!

Couple of preorders from the summer from SIC Records finally arrived. Despite the long wait and uncertainty, I'm actually really happy with the quality of these.

Some pickups from Mello Music Group from their latest sale. Been wanting Mr. Lif on physical for a while now. Also trying to slowly fill the gaps in Oddisee's catalog. Love when labels provide standard pressings for cheap.

Finally picked up Kind Of Blue on vinyl. Took nearly 20 years, but also finally expanding my Norah Jones experience beyond her debut.

Grab bag of rap/hip-hop pick-ups. I already have an OG copy of the Big Boi, but it's one of my favorite albums so I doubled up with the VMP version. Much like the Oddisee, I'm trying to fill in my Curren$y collection.

Muriel Grossmann - Quiet Earth

A big one. I made the mistake the other day of counting how many records I'm waiting on - it was 54! 🙄 Many might be stuck in the UK but it shocked even me. Anyway this is one of the very best I was waiting for. Certain to be in my top 5 for this year - the latest by what's becoming my favourite current jazz musician.

The New Dylans
Franco - Mi Amor
Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou - Typou Tche Vive Nan / Dekpe Lomin

I haven't got a record in a pizza box for a while so that was fun! At least this one ce from Italy... I used to love the New Dylans in the 90s and just found out their first album in 1986 was on wax so snapped that up. Plus, a Congolese album and two rare Poly-Rythmo's to round out some sweet grabs.
