Fresh Grabs

The Stan Tracey Big Brass - We Love You Madly (Columbia, 1969 First Stereo Pressing)
John Coltrane With The Red Garland Trio - Soultrane (Prestige/Esquire, 1960 First UK Pressing)
Big John Patton – Got A Good Thing Goin' (Blue Note, 1966 First Mono Pressing)
Johnny Dankworth/Johnny Scott - Jazz For Moderns (BBC Transcription, 1963 First Pressing)
Jeff Kruger's "Jazz At The Flamingo" - Vol. 1 (Tempo Records, 1956 First 7" Pressing)

A fantastic set of jazz records including an incredible looking first UK pressing of Coltrane's Soultrane, complete with Ralph Steadman (of Hunter S Thompson fame). The Londonjazzcollector stated that this was "one the best pressings I have ever heard", so I'm really looking forward to listening to it, the disc is incredibly clean. The BBC Transcription is also an interesting purchase, not too many of these were pressed and they were typically "deleted" after use. The Stan Tracey has a pretty impressive lineup (although with the strange addition of trad jazz player, Acker Bilk). John Patton is a fantastic musician and this group, with Grant Green, is superb. Finally, a super rare Tempo 7" which I got at a steal after a low bid-offer was accepted.

Sigur Rós - Ágætis Byrjun (Smekkleysa, 2022 Vinyl Me Please Essentials Pressing)
Barbara Lea - Lea In Love (Prestige, 2022 Vinyl Me Please Classics Pressing)
Freddie Hubbard - Live At Jazz Jamboree, Warszawa 1991. A Tribute To Miles. (Who's Who In Jazz, 2021 Limited RSD Pressing)

The first essentials that I have bought in a while and the package is great. I finished reading the booklet last night, which was enjoyable, and hopefully, the pressing matches the quality. I haven't listened to the Barbara Lea yet but the booklet was a good read and pretty interesting as I wasn't aware of her before this. It does look like the disc has a bit of a warp but hopefully it's not too bad. Finally, my local had a sale on and I was able to get this great RSD release for a good price, 2LP's of late-era Freddie Hubbard.

Keith Jarrett: The Man And His Music by Ian Carr (Grafton Books, 1991)
Lost In The Vaults: Rare Collectables And Forgotten Gems From The Jazzwise Magazine Archives by Daniel Spicer (Eleusinian Press, 2019)
We Jazz Magazine - Issue 2 "Persuance" (We Jazz Helsinki, 2022)

Some decent reading material arrived this week as well. I finished the fantastic Daniel Spicer book in 2 days and will likely dip in and out again as it's a great resource for obscure albums. I have to admit to being very unfamiliar with Keith Jarrett and have not really listened to any of his music. I thought it would be interesting to read a bit about him berfore digging into his music. Interestingly, his book was written by trumpeter Ian Carr. Finally, the lastest magazine/book from We Jazz Helsinki.

Traded in a bunch of old albums I didn’t listen to much and wound up with a whole lot more than I expected to receive. Walked out with this nice stack of records (and two CDs of albums I cannot afford on vinyl) and still came away with $225 in my pocket.

What versions are the Black Sabbath Vol. 4 and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath? Those are the two I'm missing but I've got either the deluxe or super deluxe of the others and am debating which versions to grab of those two.

These two. Saw some reviews regarding Vol. 4 saying it had some noise, but going to give it a clean and see how it is tomorrow. Really hadn’t listened to much Sabbath besides Paranoid so was just looking for affordable decent sounding copies. Will let ya know how they sound when I clean/spin em!

@Hemotep cleaned both of these in the Humminguru before throwing them on and was really pleased with both. They were both clean, quiet, and flat; had no issues that I saw some had on Discogs. No distortion on "Changes," and honestly thought it was a really great sounding track. My only knock is that I wish a few of the heavier songs on "Vol. 4" had a punchier bass, but it wasn't detrimental. Overall, very happy with both of these pressings.
