Fresh Grabs

US jazz records tend to be a rarity here in the UK anyway and with Blue Notes being the pick of the bunch they rarely make it to charity shops in my experience. Still, I can dream...
American servicemen and merchant mariners would bring jazz records over to trade with the kids when they came off for shore leave, but I would think many of those are long gone now or in collections.

Almost certainly in collections, I suppose the odd one might pop up in charity shops now and then but I haven't been that lucky.

When the UK & US music unions had their feud the only way UK musicians could get to see/hear their idols play was by joining "Geraldo's Navy". Essentially they would play on the shipping lines to and from America and get 1-2 days layover where they would head to the various clubs in NY. I imagine more than a few records were picked up during this time too, although it might still have been shellac at that time as well.

My January grabs. Trying to keep my vinyl spending to $100CDN a month. After taxes and shipping come out pretty damn close
Don Cherry - Where is Brooklyn? (BN Classics reissue)
Jackie McLean - Destination Out (BN Classics reissue)
Belle & Sebastian - Days of the Bagnold Summer (an Amazon accideal)
The Style Council - Cafe Bleu (Japanese OG pressing) - I am a big Jam and Paul Weller fan but have always had a love/hate relationship with The Style Council. But over the last few years I have realized that there is some excellent songwriting on these albums, especially Cafe Bleu. Plus these Japanese pressings from the early 80s sound great.

I have a lot of time for the Style Council.

Despite being a big B&S fan I’ve still never bought ‘…Bagnold Summer’.
