Fresh Grabs

I had no idea GM had done Nails...I've got the black press and don't really feel a need to change that but man, that is such a brutal album
Yeah it was their record of the month for March. It’s insane how it can be only 21 minutes long but still leave you feeling winded and ready to tap out when it’s finished!

Happened into a windfall of records while the site was down...

First, my order that was waiting when I got home from work yesterday, which was one of those "I might as well buy two more records to get the free shipping, I guess!" situations.

Sun Ra and His Arkestra – Thunder Of The Gods
Shad – A Short Story About a War
John Cage meets Sun Ra – The Complete Concert • June 8, 1986 • Coney Island, NY

Once the kids were in bed my friends and I had our semi-monthly record club, which came with bonuses this month in the form of a PIF and a record that was picked up for me in Vancouver and brought over to the island so I could avoid additional shipping costs.

Piano Novel – Fendre L'écorce
k.d. lang – Shadowland
Nathan Shubert – The Moon From Here

My buddy Aaron also had a small handful of sweet bargain bin scores for me!

The Doors – Strange Days
Blue Öyster Cult – Secret Treaties
The Mothers – Over-Nite Sensation

Today's mail included another sweet Paladin package packed pristinely by @Ethos99

Zeal & Ardor – Live In London
King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard – Teenage Gizzard
Zeal and Ardor – Stranger Fruit

And last, but most certainly not least(!), a Sun Ra release that seemed like a wild goose chase for many many months with more cancelled orders than I've ever experienced in my attempts to get my hands on a copy (@MikeH even tried on my behalf and had his order cancelled!)

Some great grabs from rhe month of March.

First a couple country classics I picked up from my local at a great price (about $30 total). That Shotgun Willie is an upgrade from my previous beat up copy. Cover is a bit worn, but vinyl is crisp as can be!

On to a mix of stuff I got from a thrift store (Ryder and Dylan), aleftovwr from RSD from my other local store (Richmond Fontaine) and my first deliveries from Last Night From Glasgow. The debut from Album Club (on the far top right) is a true gem IMO!

Hi, I'm an addict. My binge continues.

Hit up 5 stores today, 2 of which I haven't dug through since before the pandemic, and 1 which I've never been to. Nas & Doom were pre-orders that arrived in the mail this week. Madlib & Pete/CL were used mail arrivals too. Everything else I picked up in the used bins today other than the Elzhi and Jay-Z, which were new.

I cleaned out the soul, rap and world sections of stuff I want, so I should just need to check the new arrivals sections regularly at these places going forward. Only partially went through the jazz sections, and didn't even touch the rock/pop sections though. Did hit up a new store for the first time (opened 2 years ago) that's small and only sells used records and has awesome & weird stuff - found that Funk Inc there. Probably already my 2nd favorite shop in town. Contemplating hitting up my old regular from 15 years ago that I haven't been to in probably 10 years tomorrow. Or maybe I'll save that for next weekend.

Also, found 4 crates of records in the back of my storage room that I had grabbed from my mom's place 8 years ago and put there when I first moved into my current place. Before that, they were at my mom's for 6 years since I first moved out. So essentially untouched for 14 years. Mostly filled with the kind of crap I could afford at the time - super common or beat up records you'd find at thrift stores or dollar bins back then, and since I was digging for samples back then - sound library records, weird instructional records, kid's records, etc. I actually thought I'd donated most of this stuff years ago when I parsed down my collection and took a long (years-long) break from collecting. But there's actually some good stuff in there, and some albums slipped in there that I've been wondering where they were. Still can't find the copy of Physical Graffiti that I know I had though - that might have accidentally slipped into one of the crates that I did donate. Not technically fresh grabs, but here's a few that I grabbed on first flip through to clean.

Where’d you preorder that DOOM from?

These technically should have arrived with the big batch o' rekkids above, but our parcel locker was too full(!) so I had to make a trip to the post office for the first time since the parcel locker got installed in our building 3 months ago...

Jothan Callins & The Sounds Of Togetherness – Winds of Change

Thanks so much @nolalady for putting Joel Fairstein and Mad About Records on my radar!
