Fresh Grabs

I have been listening to the digital versions of these Fleetwood albums that I was not very familiar with before the last year or two now and decided to finally grab the box as they seem to only get better and better over time.. Hopefully the live show is solid as well since I have never heard it before.. at least I don't think I have!

One day short of exactly a year since I pre-ordered this sexy lil thang, CunninLynguists – Oneirology 3LP and even though the color is nowhere remotely close to the mockup (was supposed to be a black smoke) i'll take it as long as it sounds good!

Then got the tri color Lucifer On The Sofa and decided to mess around and get a spoon full so it wasn't alone on the shelf :D

Warhorse - ST - Just recently discovered this and absolutely fell in love with it as it's just straight up great, unmistakably "1970" hard rock with clear influences all over the place. Looking forward to dig into it deeper now.

Then grabbed the new reissue of Blink's greatest hits as I don't have much interest in there full albums past the first couple so this fills the rest of those gaps and then some.

Great outtake of Bang A Gong but haven't heard the Jeepster track on this yet.

Got a late addition to the pile a few minutes ago, all smiles from Dexter..

I had a bunch of points on Udiscover so I got the deluxe version which includes the 3 lithographs in the first picture and an extra middle pocket inside the gatefold. It's a beautiful presentation all around so hopefully it sounds as good as it looks!

(Most of) my March grabs:

First, some cheap grabs from my local. Been looking for a low-priced copy of The Slider for years, and finally got a VG for $4.

Next, some albums I got from a private collection:

Out of those, the XTC in particular looks basically unplayed. Also happy with the Who twofer and to have Broken English back in my collection (I traded a previous copy in years ago, and later regretted it). The Doors debut is a cheap 70s version that sounds adequate (certainly better than the beaters I’ve owned before). Not pictured: the Rolling Stones’ Dirty Work, which is so bad that I’m not sure whether I can make room for it in my collection.

Three of those are 70s stereo reissues that came from the same collection. They’re duplicates for me but of course I found a way to rationalize each purchase (slightly different track lists, etc.). I was shocked and dismayed to learn that the US version of Revolver doesn’t include “And Your Bird Can Sing,” a criminal omission. And yes, I picked up the 1LP version of the Pepper’s 2017 remaster (which I love), so I can now sell my 2LP copy that was so rarely played.

My one other new album purchase: Nilüfer Yanya’s amazing new album.

Thoughts…
It was a wild month, I found some real gems this month. The pick ups I was most excited about were the OG pressing I was able to acquire. Sonic Youth’s Washing Machine is currently OOP. I am sure it will get repressed but coming across an OG copy (along with OG’s of Old & In The Way, X’s Los Angeles) upon a recent visit to Rainy Day Records was too good to pass up. My Local, Hi-Voltage Records got in some fantastic collections this month as well and I was lucky to pick up the 1986 Rhino repress of The Modern Lovers self-titled debut which includes 3 additional (and essential) bonus tracks. In the same visit I also was able to pick up an excellent Jonathan Richman solo album It’s Time For. Richman’s solo albums from the 80s and early 90s are slowly being reissued but It’s Time For has yet to be reissued so it’s a bit harder to find. My local also came into an excellent collection of Original Pressing Dub albums. They were a bit pricey but I was happy to be able to add a couple in Sly & Robbie’s Raiders Of The Lost Dub and the Prince Jammy release, Kamikazi Dub. Both releases are fantastic examples of the genre with a some stunning album artwork.

Beyond that, most of my pick ups were new releases and/or reissues. The new Spoon album is one of my favorites new releases from the year thus far. The reissues of The LemonheadsIt’s A Shame About Ray, Karate’s The Bed Is In The Ocean, and King Geedorah were all done exceptionally well. I was also happy with ORG’s reissue of Fatlip’s solo debut and the recent Instrumental Sonic Youth instrumental release.

Also a big thanks to @Hemotep @Ponman2003 for hooking me up for winning the Weight Loss challenge (I’m now down 35 lbs since the beginning of the year) and @MikeH for scoring me some super cheap Leonard Cohen. I also wanna shout out @Twentytwo for bringing Izaak Opatz to my attention. He’s an artist that I have been enjoying since the introduction and can’t wait for his new album to drop.

Well, that concludes another month and though we’re only 5 days into April I am already 9 albums deep. Hopefully things slow down a bit.

That Beavis & Butthead experience cassette tape is a nostalgic trip 🤘

Right! My Mom HATED Beavis & Butthead, she banned me from watching it, but I was a latchkey kid so I still watched it quite frequently. I was in 6th grade with this album dropped and I purchase a copy of the CD from KMart on the DL but my mom discovered it and made me give it away to one of my friends.

I just had an unbelievably poorly boxed very heavy box set from Berlin Philharmonic. Working on getting replacement outer display box (feels like silk) and new inner sleeves that all have corners dinged. Lightweight cardboard shipper with no airspace. Grr.

But today I just wanted to give another shoutout to @Plaid Room / Colemine shipping dept. They r A#1. Buy that crew a beer (after hrs).

Amen.

I'd like to thank @Plaid Room / Colemine for showing the proper way to package vinyl. I have emulated them with my discogs sales and the results speak for themselves.

Man, that is a great haul. Bummed I missed that Ellington, honestly waiting on a Deluxe pressing of that one day that includes the version of Black & Tan Fantasy that he performed as part of that set.
