Fresh Grabs

Was too lazy to post last weekend’s grabs. But now I know I'm in real trouble when I'm making mid-week stops at my record stores 😅. I hit up a couple stores after work yesterday. The Tim Maia and Janko Nilovic are new reissues, but otherwise all super clean copies from the used bins (and a few from the virtual used bins courtesy of USPS).

I received my copy of Tool's Fear Inoculum 5xLP boxset. Say what you want about Tool, but this boxset is something special. The artwork is topnotch, and they used this paper that has a suede-like feel to it. Very strange, but impressive. The etchings are a neat artistic touch, but a bit inconvenient with all the flipping one must do. I found that inconvenience to be quickly overshadowed by the audio once you hear the actual album. Chris Bellman mastered it and it's damn perfect. Excellent separation between the instruments, drums and bass are loud and in your face like their live show. Really quite refreshing to hear Danny Carey's playing like this on vinyl. Also the records were in poly-lined sleeves, so no sleeve scuffs, scratches, paper dust. Hell, they even shipped the box set in a foam-padded mailer. MRP pressed the album, and I was a bit concerned when I read that, given their affiliation with GZ, but the records are flat and dead silent. Really impressed with how this came out. They must of took their time with QC on this release.

I’ve heard nothing but great things as well
