Fresh Grabs

Thanks for the reminder! This was properly difficult to get when it first came out but looks like the prices has settled down considerably.

The line-up is incredible, Makaya McCraven, Wildflower, Shabaka And The Ancestors, the Juju Exchange.......hells bells!
It's sooooo good. And actually pressed relatively well too.
Probably should take a tab when I listen but those days are long over 😊(dont do drugs kids)

Got the new Fontaines D.C. on red vinyl from JPC today and the Prince "Batman" album used from Discogs.

Decided to avoid RSD crowds & lines and mostly sit out this year, and instead raided the used bins at a couple stores last night before closing while they were prepping for RSD.

The Kashif and Beasties were actually sealed. Also grabbed a new copy of the recent Numero reissue of that Ponderosa Twins LP.

This was my haul from my first Record City order. Half city pop, half cheap bargain bin (mostly cheap at least) Japanese jazz funk. Grabbed some long time wants that never pop up affordable stateside. Everything was graded conservatively and in nice condition and packaged well. Gonna be in trouble trying to not order too much in the future 😅

And lastly, some other mail calls from the last couple of weeks. Been waiting on that Cunninlynguists for a while now. Not a big Uzi fan, but giving this a chance. And I have an OG Aaliyah, but it’s VG, so hoping this VMP press is an upgrade. If not, I have a preorder for the label’s variant too.

Man the post office and FedEx with the one two punch today and it was not welcome. They both delivered several days early and my wife did not need to see that after I came home with a bigger than expected RSD haul! 🤣
Thankfully she's a saint who so far claims her many comments that I stop buying so many f'ing records is mostly a joke 😳

These were the non-RSD arrivals and huge shout out to Dead Tank Records who packaged those Osees and the Sneaker Pimps like a tank! On top of having great prices and doing a discount too. First time buyer from their garage shop operation and I'm a huge fan from this experience.

Edit: Huge caveat to that, the Sneaker Pimps looks sketchy and sure enough it's a boot 🤦

I had to work, and I don't have any money, so my haul was small. But these were a couple of the albums I wanted the most so I'm pretty happy.
Gonna do a search for Peter Tosh (number 1 on the want list) tomorrow.
Then wait til June for Prince. View attachment 136779

Tosh was on my maybe list but #1 for the guy behind me so I handed the only copy left to him when I was doing my pass over the titles.

Bill Evans - Morning Glory: The 1973 Concert At The Teatro Gran Rex, Buenos Aires (Resonance Records, 2022 RSD Pressing)
Bill Evans - Inner Spirit: The 1979 Concert At The Teatro General San Martín, Buenos Aires (Resonance Records, 2022 RSD Pressing)

RSD was initially a bit of a failure for me yesterday. I had set out to get the Pepper Adams and Charles Mingus and my local's website had them both listed as being available on RSD at both of their 2 shops. I got in line around 7am and the owner came over when he saw me to see what it was I was after and said he didn't think he had those 2 in. Nearer 8am he walked down the queue dishing out numbered tickets and when the doors opened we all went in to get a coffee (the shop is in the corner of a much larger coffee shop/live venue) and went up when our number was called (a fantastic system btw). So, I went up and.....no Mingus or Adams, they never arrived at the shop and was only at their other one. I saw the 2 Evans and feeling rather deflated I bought them, but the owner kindly said he would ring the other shop and ask them to put a copy of the Adams and Mingus to one side if they still had them. So, I get the call later that day to say he had secured a Pepper Adams for me but no Mingus. Then earlier today I had an email alert from JazzMessengers (cheers for the tip @Skalap) and managed to order the Mingus. So, success all around!

The Tubby Hayes Quintet - Down In The Village (Fontana, 1963 First Mono Pressing)
Tubby Hayes And The Paul Gonsalves All Stars - Change Of Setting (World Record Club, 1967 First Stereo Pressing)
The Ronnie Scott Jazz Group - Vol. 2 (Esquire, 1953 First Pressing)
The Ronnie Scott Jazz Group - Vol. 3 (Esquire, 1954 First Pressing)

"Down In The Village" was one of the trickier original pressings of Tubby Hayes' albums as lead to get hold of (paired with "– Late Spot At Scott's" which is from the same live session) and I refused to pay the triple digits it usually goes for. This one popped up online and looked to be in battered shape as the cover was super murky with lots of dirt. The record looked to be the same way. I won the bid and when it arrived my suspicions were correct and it just needed a clean, all the muck came off the sleeve easily and the record cleaned up on my machine fantastically. I have had a decent run of finding much more affordable dirty records and cleaning them up to a much better grade, with "Change Of Setting" being another example. Its the 3rd original copy I have of this album now but its typically hard to find and expensive when it does come up, so I bought it for a future swap. I have seen it go for close to £100 on ebay but this 'dirty' (now clean) copy was mine for £17. Finally, I bought these 2 fantastic (just look at that cover design!) Ronnie Scott rarities on Discogs. I was so so so close to putting a claim in as the seller had not responded for almost a month, but they turned up yesterday morning. According to Discogs, I am the only person that has a copy of 1, and the 2nd person to have a copy for the other.

The Don Rendell Five Featuring Barbara Thompson - Just Music (Spotlight, 1976 First Signed Pressing)
Michael Garrick Trio - Moonscape (Airbourne Records, 2007 Trunk Records Limited Pressing)
Arne Domnérus, Bengt Hallberg, Georg Riedel, Egil Johansen + Lars Erstrand - Jazz At The Pawnshop (Proprius, 1977 First Pressing)
Miles Davis - Miles Davis With Horns (Prestige, 1961 First UK Mono Pressing)

More British jazz to start with a really nice copy of "Just Music" which is signed by Don Rendell on the back and dated 28/05/81. Anything with Barbara Thompson is killer in my book! "Moonscape" is a really interesting album, originally released on 10" in a run of just 99 copies....a mega rarity. Johnny Trunk reissued it using a needle drop as the tapes are long gone, but even this is a rarity at just 500 copies. "Jazz At The Pawnshop" has been on my radar for a while as its supposedly some audiophiles claim it to be one of the best-recorded jazz albums of all time! Finally, a nice UK Equire pressing of "Miles Davis With Horns".

Andrew Hill - Passing Ships (Blue Note, 2021 Tone Poet Pressing)

This has been one of my most sought after Tone Poets (from the ones I don't already have) but was far from cheap here in the UK. This copy appeared on ebay with an Offer option and the seller accepted! Really happy to dig in!
