Fresh Grabs

I got a a 24/96 FLAC of the 1971 White Label Promo that i'll upload if you want?

I'd be curious to hear the 2005 as well though! I know for myself, hearing the 71 version just showed me how great this could sound if handled right as it doesn't have to be audiophile level just bring it to life a bit!

edit.. I just went and ahead and uploaded it since it was so quick... superstupidmaggotbrain.rar

also, here's the lineage for anyone interested in that!
I have another Maggot Brain rip to share, not mine, and it's up for less than a week at
MB.zip
Source/gear: WB-2007 first press; VPI ‘player’ [Ortofon 2M Red] to SugarCube SC-2; 96/24 FLAC (700 MB)

Anyone used a SugarCube? Seems pretty awesome for removing clicks & pops.

I’ve debated ripping my vinyl but doesn’t seem worth the trouble to me. And I think the sugar cube is $1,500-$2000 so haven’t even thought about buying one. That Burntable Kickstarter thing was somewhat intriguing if I decided I wanted to rip vinyl though

If you were going to do some serious vinyl ripping for listening or archiving I would suggest starting with good A/D convertors like RME or Benchmark for ie.

I don’t have the spare time to rip vinyl in earnest, but I do have a few oddities that I should capture & share, stuff that doesn’t turn up often or on digital.

I do very basic Audacity capture on an old MacBook Pro, a little cleanup, track separation, name & tag.

I also don’t have a spare $1500+ for new gear.

There is a fairly well known vinylripper in the community who has been using a SugarCube for over a year now I think. His rips sound great with it.

Grant Green – Idle Moments (Blue Note, 1968 Stereo Pressing)

Found this unexpected gem in the wild yesterday. I have been holding out for a first pressing but Grant Green's popularity seems to have exploded recently so it's becoming more and more difficult. I popped into London yesterday and saw this second stereo pressing in the corner shelf of one of the record shops. The sleeve's seen better days but the record itself is in decent shape. I hardly ever see early Blue Notes for affordable prices nowadays so I pulled the trigger on this one.

Bank holiday here in the UK so we went to a carboot this morning. Here are a few bits I picked up.

The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night (Parlophone, 1964 First Mono Pressing)
The Beatles – Rubber Soul (Parlophone, 1965 First Mono Pressing)

Bit of a story behind these. As I have mentioned before I have never managed to "click" with the Beatles but there was a time when I was able to buy a big chunk of their releases for 50p at a time. In fact, I passed up on countless copies because they were just everywhere. Since the "boom" they have obviously been pretty sought after so I rarely see them anymore. Anyway, fast forward to today and I was chatting to an older gent that had a few boxes of records for sale. Nothing caught my eye but the chat was good. As I was about to move on I saw a pile behind his table and asked him about them. Turns out they were his "expensive" pile that he forgot to put out. He passed them over and it was almost all Beatles records, around 7 in total. He said they were all good copies that just needed a clean but the sleeves were in rough shape so he was selling them and giving the money to his local hospice. At this point, I knew I was going to buy a couple just because he was so nice and settled on these 2, for £5 each. On a side note, when he passed over the "expensive" pile another guy snapped his head over and literally came shoulder to shoulder with me to see what there was, when I put these 2 down he grabbed at them and tutted when I said I was buying them, he also snatched the others out of my hand when I said I was finished with them. Madness.

I THINK it's these 2 which I ended up with (Hard Day's Night & Rubber Soul) and while the sleeves aren't in the best shape (the backs are fine but there is damage to the front), the records cleaned up really really well without any scratches (so much dirt came off them!).

Oscar Peterson - Plays Pretty (Mercury/Columbia, 1955 First UK Pressing)
Erroll Garner - Jazz Gallery (Philips, 1959 First UK 7" Pressing)
Erroll Garner - Concert By The Sea (Columbia/Philips, 1956 First UK 7" Pressing)
The Modern Jazz Quartet - One Never Knows (Atlantic/London, 1961 First UK 7" Pressing)

Some super cheap pickups from the carboot as well. I saw the Oscar Peterson 10" and when the seller said it was 30p each or 4 £1 I decided to pull out 3 7" releases so I didn't have to carry all the change! Seriously.....30p!!! The 7" releases annoyingly had taped sides, it's something which I have seen before and would be done when bought new to "protect" them. A real shame but for that price I cant really complain.

Stan Tracey - Stan Tracey In Person.... (Columbia, 1967 First Mono Pressing)

This also turned up over the weekend. I have been really enjoying Stan Tracey's music for a while now and this one sees him in a solo position. Really captivating.

I've been looking for On and On and Veneer but didn't want to pay the second hand prices on ebay/discogs. Was surprised to see both there at list price. Picked up another copy of the KG Leonard Cohen Songs From A Room if anybody on here wanted it. Opened it up to double-check that it's the KG cut and.....instead was a KG cut of The Byrds - Sweetheart of the Rodeo....not sure if I should bring it back or if they will even let me return it. Wanted to order the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band exclusive online but figured it would be available in store. And am missing Loaded so grabbed a cheap copy of that too!

Excited to get this one on vinyl, 180G 2 Lp Very unique Beatles tribute. Thanks to the mention from @kafunis @avecigrec @Mather and others. Highly recommended! (and cheap on Amz)

Thanks for the reminder! This was properly difficult to get when it first came out but looks like the prices has settled down considerably.

The line-up is incredible, Makaya McCraven, Wildflower, Shabaka And The Ancestors, the Juju Exchange.......hells bells!
