Fresh Grabs

I usually only post at the end of the month but figured I could sneak in some of my recent CD grabs. Most of these are from the past week or so, but a few are from the previous two months. I just did the math and these set me back less than $40:

Nice grabs. I am not a big Billy Corrigan fan but I like that Zwan album. I have been looking for a copy for a while.

Jackie McLean - Consequence (Blue Note, 1979 First UK Pressing)
Lee Morgan - The Sixth Sense (Blue Note, 1969 First Pressing)

I popped an offer in for the Jackie McLean online and was surprised that it was accepted, I really dig the tracks on this album. I have been trying to get all of Lee Morgan's albums as lead for quite a while now and I'm fortunate enough to have grabbed OG's of all the big hitters early on in most cases before the prices went into the stratosphere. The ones I'm missing are typically the later era releases which have also become pricey so I'm happy to wait until they pop up for a reasonable price, like 'The Sixth Sense' did this week!

Tenorama - S/T (Pye Nixa, 1956 First Mono Pressing)
Tony Coe - With Brian Lemon Trio (77 Records, 1971 First Pressing)
Joe Harriott - Partying With Joe (Gearbox Records, 2011 First Limited Pressing)
Mike Nevard's Melody Maker All Stars - Aces Anonymous (Atlantic Golden Bell, 1954 First 10" Pressing)
John Surman - Obeah Wedding (Deram, 1969 First 7" Pressing)
Victor Feldman With Tubby Hayes, Dizzy Reece, Jimmy Deuchar - Transatlantic Alliance (Tempo, 1982 Jasmine Records Pressing)

A hearty mix of British jazz finds. Some of these are from physical shops and some from online. Looks like there was a backlog with the Royal Mail strikes so they all arrived at once! I have missed out on Tenorama (Kenny Graham, Don Rendell, Jimmy Skidmore, Roy Sidwell) a few times in the past when it sold for much more than I was willing to pay, so happy to finally get a copy. The Tony Coe was a cheapo purchase and the line-up is fantastic! The Joe Harriott was recorded at a house party in 1956 and Gearbox worked some magic on the tapes. The Victor Feldman is a reissue of the incredibly rare Tempo release. I usually hold out in the hopes of finding an OG but the Tempo releases are just so rare that not only do they hardly ever pop up for sale, but they cost an arm and a leg when they do. The John Surman 7" is a rarity actually and I was able to get this copy for a great price. Finally, a release that I had read about but never seen, 'Aces Anonymous'. This 10" was a group of British musicians that travelled over to the US to record, with the results being released as a Blue Note 10" (which I am fortunate enough to have). The A-side of 'Aces Anonymous' is the same as the Blue Note, but with the B-side being 2 different tracks. The seller said he found this at a fair the other week, in fantastic shape and with the original rice paper inner.

The Dave Brubeck Quartet – Jazz Goes To Junior College (Columbia/Fontana, 1957 First UK Pressing)
Lester Young - Leaps Again! (Fontana, 1966 First UK Pressing)
Zoot Sims - Plays Alto Tenor & Baritone (ABC-Paramount/Music For Pleasure, 1967 First UK Pressing)
Hank D'Amico Quartet - Holiday With Hank (Bethlehem/London Records, 1956 First UK Pressing)

I visited our local carboot sale this morning after a long hiatus and left with a decent set of records. These 4 cost me a grand total of £4.

Whilst at the carboot sale I came across an old fruit box from Portobello Market which I suspected might fit a few 7" records. I have some larger wine boxes that are a similar timber construction which work well so I went for it - the box only cost me £2. I took it home, cleaned it up, lined the bottom and voila, works a treat!

Finally, a couple of cool jazz posters from the 80's featuring Freddie Hubbard and Archie Shepp!

Coil's "The Gay Men's Guide To Safer Sex" Soundtrack -- reissue with extra tracks and the psychedelic cover, because Danny Hyde likes making money and I am a magpie and cannot resist a shiny thing, apparently.

Killing Joke's Singles Collection was a camelcamelcamel snipe -- I had actually decided to get it on CD since it'd be cheaper and have a bunch of b-sides and remixes etc, but CCC found me a copy for $30 shipped and I crumbled.

Nirvana's In Utero and Gal Costa's India both from @Crabbers sale.

If you have a sharp eye, you will also find an album I am saving for PIFsgiving.

Not so much of a fresh grab as a "fresh made": I picked up some used minidiscs and since the previous owner had frankly terrible taste (little angels? clapton chronicles? wtf), I wiped 'em and put some new stuff on 'em.
