Gadzooks! Its the December Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread!

12/18 - Beavis and Butthead Do Christmas / South Park Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo: “Well Brian, if you want poop for Christmas, Santa Butthead would be happy to come by and take a dump under your tree”. Play one of the albums that is worth the least in your collection. Howdy ho, and lets see those gems!

A few years ago I made the What's The Least Valuable Record In Your Collection? thread to compliment the What's The Most Valuable Record In Your Collection? thread.

It really wasn't that popular of a topic I guess, but I find that there's some interesting things that get sold for almost nothing. Sure most are Goodwill fodder, but sometimes there's a gem in them there stacks.

Various – Different Strokes
Columbia – AS 12, 1971

Pressed at Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Terre Haute

As far as thrift store compilations go - this one isn't all that bad artist/track-wise - I bought it and have kept it because it has a track from Soft Machine - which seems a bit odd that they were promoted on this comp.

Time to catch up...

12/15 - My Little Pony – Hearth’s Warming Eve: This holiday episode focuses on the history of Equestria, and to quote @duke86fan is about “people not being assholes to one another and racial equality”. Play something designed to bring people together, or something about horses.

Let's work together...

Canned Heat - Future Blues

12/16 – It’s A Wonderful Life: This holiday favorite has an angel sent from heaven to show George Bailey how much he’s meant to others. Play something with bells or chimes, to help an angel get its wings.

I reckon archangels need their wings too...

Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells

I'm glad somebody played this - I was too lazy to dig my copy out of storage to do it!

12/17 - A Charlie Brown Christmas: A good percentage of us own this release which seems to have reached Black Pumas levels of variants. Suspending the usual “play something unique” rule, play it if you have it and lets see what versions are out there. If you don’t have it, play a holiday favorite.

I'll play it without playing "it". One of my favorite holiday records...

Los Straitjackets - Complete Christmas Songbook

Quite a few have zero $ value. Some of those are rare gems that have never sold. Some of those are old dawgs.

Here's a dawg but it actually has a value - someone out there felt this was worth a buck twelve?

Lester Lanin And His Orquestra - Christmas Dance Party Volume 9

12/19 - The Grinch: Play something that makes your heart grow three sizes.

I adore this band and always find comfort, beauty and love in their darkness and isolation...

I'm gonna run and find
A place where I can hide
Somewhere that no one knows
Someplace that no one goes
So don't you look for me
I'll be where you can't see
Somewhere I can't be found
My little underground
Uh huh huh

The Jesus And Mary Chain - Barrowlands Live

20231221_004512.jpg

12/20 - A Christmas Carol: The 1951 version of a Christmas Carol is widely considered the best adaptation. As this is the third version of this to show up on this list, play a Ghost of Christmas Future by someone you are looking forward to a future release from.

New one coming 3-8-24...

A record that arrived today - and why I do love this community we have here. @DeadwaxDude saw that I missed out on this release when it sold out and contacted me about his damaged jacket copy that he got replaced. Even just paying shipping from Canada was worth it compared to retail price - let alone what it goes for on the secondary market.

Rhino High Fidelity series numbered to 5000, #1250

I have a Kal-El reissue and their new EP pre-ordered that isn't supposed to arrive until late December/January. But I'm not holding my breath, I've noticed things are getting delayed again - even prior to the Christmas rush. I can see this, as it is also shipping from Europe, not to arrive until mid-February at the earliest. I would love to be surprised by an early shipping, though.

KAL- EL – Dark Majesty
Majestic Mountain Records – MMR-030, 2021

Red/Black Pinwheel variant, limited to 300

12/21 - Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer: Sam the Snowman was famously voiced by Burl Ives, who was jailed in the early 1930’s for singing “Foggy Dew”, which the authorities considered “bawdy”. Play something bawdy in solidarity with Burl.

This was the first thing I thought of.

Puscifer – Puscifer's 8-Ball Bail Bonds – The Berger Barns Live In Phoenix
Puscifer Entertainment – none, 2013

#BFRSD13 - limited to 1000 copies

You can trace the "Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics" sticker back to Tipper Gore hearing her daughter sing the lyrics to Darling Nikki off this album and raising it with the Parent Music Resource Center, which she co-founded. The first album to actually carry the sticker was Banned in the U.S.A. by the 2 Live Crew.
