So the 8MZ stylus goes on the gold2 cartridge?
Could I use a gold3 stylus on the gold2 cartridge?

It does! And if I’m not mistaken it’s the cartridge that they’ve upgraded for v3, the stylus is the same as v2.
The 8MZ is the upgrade option for any Prestige series cartridge. A V2 and V3 stylus are the same. The difference between them is the cartridge body, not the stylus.

Just curious, why do you say that about the bass? Is bass supposed to be better on one versus the other?

Because the bass is great on the black and I dunno if there is a sound signature change

Good bass is signature of the grado carts. The gold has it too.

So just coming to the end of my 5th album played tonight on the 8mz. This is the first one that I’ve spun that I know very well. I know it’s not properly broken in but here’s my early read.
There is more detail, in particular treble detail. It does not sound bright, however, and there is no sibilance. The bass is just as deep as before but a bit less muddy, it’s perhaps a bit more refined and musical. The extra detail has not led to it being more sensitive to surface noise. This cartridge handles the piano better than any other cartridge/stylus combination that I’ve had on my table before. Can’t wait to hear it after it’s had a full 20 hours on the table!

I have a Gold 2 cartridge. I had almost put 1000 hours on the stylus so it was new stylus time. Instead of getting a new gold stylus i got an 8mz stylus.

Installed my Grado Blue3 (at least... I put it on my TT and I hear music coming out 
). Very nice! A lost smoother and a lot more clarity than the Black1. The bass is little more punchy.
To put my paranoid mind at ease, what should I be on the look out for if I didn't align the cart perfectly? I always second guess myself.

Distortion would be a clue, I also like using Queens Killer Queen because of all the panning they do, I actually realized my cart was not aligned correctly listening to that album and not hearing the chorus to that song.........you know the "anytiiiiiiime"Installed my Grado Blue3 (at least... I'll test it out with Eisley "Room Noises". Should be a good test to hear distortion on those vocals.Distortion would be a clue, I also like using Queens Killer Queen because of all the panning they do, I actually realized my cart was not aligned correctly listening to that album and not hearing the chorus to that song.........you know the "anytiiiiiiime"
