Hip Hop

Yes both Atmosphere and Aesop’s sound wears thin on me. Both are very talented and I definitely went through a whole Slug, Eyedea & Abilities,
Dose One, Rhymesayers, etc. phase back in the day but the last project I dug from that crew was You Can’t Imagine How Much Fun Were Having.

Love Ant’s production on that one

Yeah, Dose was probably my favorite out of all those dudes and I can't listen to anything post the first Them record anymore. Maybe Object Beings? And weirdly enough, I've never been a fan of Eyedea. I think it was his irritating kid voice when i first heard him that put me off him completely.

As a Chicago guy, I do have to say it was really cool seeing that collective of hip hop heads come out of the Midwest and put Minnesota on the map. Always thought that was super dope that they made it

I think their influence is a lot more than that. They really helped introduce serious emotion into rap music and that influenced a lot of people including a bunch of people in Chicago who would go on to 'create' 'emo hip hop'

Honestly, nothing against Aesop but i've been listening to him since Music For Earthworms dropped 21 years ago or whatever. After a while it just became way too samey for me. I'm sure he still has standout joints and whatnot but I just feel no urge to check anything he does anymore. Ditto for Atmosphere / Slug and a bunch of others too.

I've been listening to Aesop just as long and haven't gotten bored.
If you haven't checked them out and you like his music then the most recent albums are well worth your time

Atmosphere / Slug on the other hand I haven't had a desire to listen to anything of theirs in a very long time. I'm basically in up to about When Life Gives You Lemons but after that is no mans land to me

I get the samey thing.
Its rare that an artist doesn't sound samey after they do a couple of albums and some people are so distinctive that they are always that thing.
At least with Aesop he's lyrically diverse enough to keep it interesting to me. He's gotten a little less wordy recently. Maybe he's getting more direct in his old age.
