Hip Hop

The internet bandwagon of tearing this dude down over a subpar album is wack as fuck to me.

The dude bought backpacks stuffed with back to school supplies for an entire neighborhood of kids here in Chicago.

Donated $1 a million to help save a closing school here.

His charity has done a ton of work to help keep the arts in underserved communities including buying venues and safe places for kids to perform poetry, rap, etc.

Purchased the the Chicagoist which was an amazing local news outlet that gave real neighborhood news after the rich Republican that owned it shut it down for its workers trying to unionize.

Constantly kept the Laquan McDonald murder police coverup in the limelight and put pressure on our mayor by helping with the protests.

The list can go on and on so all of these trolls spewing all that vile shit about him and his family all over his social media should fuck off and put that energy towards harassing the bastards in this country that deserve it.

I’ll get off of my soapbox now.
I understand he has done many great things for his community, which he should be applauded for. But that doesn't give a pass for criticism towards his music. He made a bad album. People are gonna say some far off shit about his character which isn't warranted but thats the internet at the end of the day.

This album is really bad. Like really bad. I really liked Acid Rap and Colouring Book but this doesnt even touch the lows of either of those mixtapes.

AND his best m8 jehovah gave us Jhene Aiko and Dr Pepper and Life.
Life is pretty cool.

Chance is a good guy. No one should hate on chance the person.

Chance album is terrible. I'm not sure what his charity work has to do with the quality of his music. Seems like your entire defense of this album is "Chance is a good guy, be nice to him". Chance is going to be ok dude, he's a multi-millionaire and putting out a terrible album isn't going to change that.

This album is not well-made. It has no cohesion, is entirely too long, and the writing is bad. What about this 22 track snoozefest is well-made?

Right, I’m not saying people can’t criticize his music, parody it, whatever.

I’m talking about when I read his timeline and it’s filled with shit like I hope your wife dies so you can go back to making good music and other vile shit like that.

Internet culture? Celebrities should be able to handle it? I am never going to agree with that

This isn't unique to Chance, this literally happens to every artist because social media was a mistake.

ScHoolboy Q was getting such a crazy amount of heat for his newest album being lukewarm and also from other people because he's not touring. Dude was just like "Yo I don't really give a fuck I'm in a really good place I just wanna chill with my daughter and golf."......you know..... like a normal person.

People on the internet amaze me at the rage they can conjure up for things that don't affect them at all.

Rage? It’s called empathy. I applaud Schoolboy Qs attitude but not everyone has that.

How many times have we seen a suicide and afterwards families have spoken out talking about the stuff that was written about that person had a major effect on the deceased.

I realize those are extreme cases and I’m not trying to imply Chance is suicidal.

I just find the internet hate mobs to be an ugly part of the culture

Yea that's gross, but nobody is doing that in here from what I've seen, just discussing the album. Chance is a great artist and an even better human so he is given more of a pass than most for this bad album imo. I'm still hyped AF for the next chance record even if this one is bad.

I'm starting to question myself.

I genuinely enjoy 13 out of the 19 songs on Chance's album. To each their own and all that great stuff, but man do yall ever like a movie that EVERYONE seems to hate and have to go back and be like ok, yea, I still enjoy this?

That's me right now lol

EDIT: I can't count. 12 out of 19.

Yeah I should have been more clear, I don’t think anyone in here was doing what I mentioned. It was more of just a rant fueled from what I was reading on my commute this morning.

Look guys, I don’t like the album, criticize it all you want, but I don’t vibe with the argument of “that’s just the way it is” when referencing the hateful mobs.

People are out here making threats and wishing death on family over a bad album. Kids are really going to Bill Buckner Chance over a weak album?

I like 8 and even some of those 8 it's a stretch to say I like them. Also none of those 8 reach the highs of his previous works imo

Agreed. The high points are definitely not there! I just see nothing but how bad/trash it is in here (despite it being the same 6 people) so I was like am I going insane here. Just went back thru the 12 before posting and yea idk. Everyone has preferences. Maybe my ears are getting older or the combination of genres I'm listening to lately is making this more accessible

Also Chances voice and charisma alone have the ability to carry lesser songs imo

Yea. Ya know, I'm not comparing the two AT ALL, and reference my avi if you're confused, but I saw a years worth of slander when TPAB dropped. My best friend who was a big Kendrick fan at the time said it was garbage, and a boring disappointment. Twitter was calling it boring old man rap. Some people on reddit said the beats were the worst of the decade, etc. I thought and still think it's the best album of the decade.

It's tough to please everyone when the bar is set so high, and I have accepted that with many of my favorite artists. Every album isn't going to be better than the last and that is ok. I can personally still enjoy parts of The Big Day, Cherry Bomb has it's highlights, Yeezus is fire, and I still love DAMN.

The ability exists absolutely because we have seen it before, but unfortunately it is never realized on this album. Chance actively makes a lot of the songs worse through his writing and voice. I think that's why I am so annoyed with this album. Chance is very capable of making good music, but this debut album was a let down in pretty much every single aspect.
