Hip Hop

I'm starting to question myself.

I genuinely enjoy 13 out of the 19 songs on Chance's album. To each their own and all that great stuff, but man do yall ever like a movie that EVERYONE seems to hate and have to go back and be like ok, yea, I still enjoy this?

That's me right now lol

EDIT: I can't count. 12 out of 19.
Nah, you are prolly right on. I was cool with about 8-10 and I have listened to it all the way through twice. The album is not his best. It is also not terrible. People like to take pot shots at the easy target and be super hyperbolic out the gate. In 10 years there will be people lauding it’s brilliance and calling it a underrated classic (which won’t be true either). I personally find myself rolling my eyes a lot reading others comments about how bad it is. It not great and being that his previous albums were perceived (by many) as such I certainly get the disappointment but to act like this record is markably worse than his previous output is goofy. I mean if you thought he was corny and didn’t enjoy Acid Rap or Coloring Book I could see you not enjoying this but to say those albums were brilliant and the new one is garbage is absurd. Not as good? Sure. Stale? Yeah. Trash? Hardly.

When he said I'm bout to book a show at the Dimmsdale Dimmadome in verse 1 track 1 I knew it wasn't going to be trash. We Go High is AMAZING. I think that song is one of the best on the project and better than a few on Coloring Book. Is it his worst project out of Acid Rap Coloring Book and Surf? Yes. I still enjoy half of it tho lol

Idk if anyone here listens to Tobi Lou in here but his debut drops Friday!

He's like a mini Chance The Rapper. He's from Chicago as well. He's got some great EPs on streaming services. I highly recommend!
I feel like its a disservice to call anyone a "mini" version of another artist. Because it just makes them sound like a lesser version. It's like "Hey do you like artist A? Well if you want to listen to a worse version of their music, check out artist B". Why wouldn't I just listen to artist A? lol

Unless.....that is the case with Tobi Lou. If so, thank you for letting me know I can just listen to Chance and not be missing out

Ok. I didn't intend to confuse you. Also, I didn't think mini was a diss.

He's from Chicago, sounds similar to Chance, and has similar subject matter/ target audience. He is heavily inspired by Chance, but he isn't worse or bad. Hence the "I highly recommend!" disclaimer

Usually if someone says "Man this kid is like a mini Kendrick" I will quickly check them out based off the reference point

I checked out the new Maxo album and gave it a solid couple listens since I wasn't that familiar with him. He's a very talented rapper and makes good songs, I just felt like both the production and lyrical flow gets a bit repetitive after a few songs. A friend said he thought it was as good as Bandana, but I found Bandana to be a lot more interesting and enjoyable of an album. I will definitely have a couple of the Maxo tracks in a playlist, but I don't think I'll be going back to listen to the whole album.

Yea I don't think it's the rap album of the year, but definitely a release that's gonna stick with me for a while!!

I also came back to say @Lee Newman u should also give Boogie - Everything For Sale a listen if you haven't yet. I like it a tad more than Maxo just because he's more versatile and less repetitive with his flows and shit
