Hip Hop

I added a huge number into my cart and refreshed.
Wanted to make sure no one missed out in here with some good warnings.
Hope I helped!
Strange, I tried that in the first place to see if I'd have some time to decide but it would only let me add two copies to my cart.
Thanks for the updates because I'd probably have missed it - was still undecided if I should wait for a possible ALC drop, but well FOMO got me (again).

It’s already up on eBay for $250+ so I guess we can just expect this with every release now? Are records really becoming the new sneakers? This sucks.
People on reddit are already asking to buy it too. With VMP not actually putting any purchasing limits in place, it's only going to get worse. They really need to go back to member only exclusives, then after a few days open it up to the public. At least give members a shot to buy it.

I've been doing some reading about bots yesterday because I'm still mad about the P4P fiasco (and my failed attempt to grab one of those Nike's) and boy was I living in a bubble the last decade.
This whole sneaker thing is ridiculous! Bots, notifiers, proxies, groups - this is a whole own multiverse...
I've heard about these things in the past but didn't know how big the game really is. I'm still shocked.
And no wonder if those bot people would be taking over the vinyl game now that most of us would just be entering the store while they've robbed the place dead empty ages before.

Totally agree. Wasn't there even a purchase limit to one copy per customer for exclusives before they changed the system?

that would be the logical thing to do but VMPs model is just to sell it to whoever as fast as they can and move on. it sucks if you a member and miss out on this stuff.

And as someone on the forum explained to me (can't remember who), people are artificially inflating the prices of records now. I noticed discogs prices have been skyrocketing on stuff in the past year. Stuff that has a median price of $30 is all selling now for $200+. You have people "selling" records on ebay or discogs to fake accounts, never paying up and having the value go up when people see it sell for that much.

Look at something like Blond...over 4,000 people have it on discogs. I bet at least another 4k+ have it who don't have discogs accounts. A copy sold for $1,500 last month on discogs. That is absurd.

Wow, I’ve never heard about this but it seems just like the next matching step...

What really shocked me even more is the bragging about how many shoes of the recent drop a person has secured and bypassing the customer limit by using proxies, different payment methods, differences in shipping address, etc.

I just don’t want to go there and if the vinyl game should be captured by these type of people, I’ll just go back to black - luckily most of the records are readily available on "unlimited" black pressing.
And in the end it’s about the music and the culture. Not necessarily the culture WSG is talking about because I can’t take him seriously anymore - but still loving his musical output.

Oh and by they way (because I've been listening to it all weekend): Shrines is such a great record. I didn’t expect anything less, but always love when expectations are surpassed!

This and alternate cover was what my assumption was. Either way, not worth the mark up he will put on it.

Yea I may get the instrumental version but a diff color and cover won’t justify the $50 plus shipping price tag.

I used to be a sneaker head. I was in it before there were long lines and online raffles etc. It got so big that it turned me off. Bots def killed the sneaker game for me. Lost all love for it. Turned my hobby to vinyl, cassette and action figures. Now I’m seeing the same thing happen with vinyl and it sucks. People who don’t really love it just coming in and buying up all the exclusive variants. But yea this def the new sneaker game.

I guess it has been done in comics and some other collectibles markets and is now making its way to discogs. Also, from what I can see, discogs sales history and mean/median/average/lowest/highest pricing is ONLY from the last 10 copies sold, not every copy ever. I'm not sure if those numbers update if someone "purchases" the record and never pays. But I see it on ebay and discogs all the time. There's no way somebody actually paid $1,500 for a sealed copy of Blond...if they did, they are an idiot hah.

I started counting at about 300 copies and just kept editing me comment with lower and lower numbers.
But the drop was insane.
I watched it drop in huge chunks.

Unless I am mistaken the non member limit didnt kick in until approx half way of stock? Cause after that point the checkout started giving me max order errors.

Surely after selling 1500 so fast theyll step the numbers up again on the next decent store drop release?

So, non members were able to order multiple copies? This is getting better each time...
This is how they could’ve handled this:
1) Writing a newsletter about this drop to inform members - just like they did last week when they announced that there won’t be a drop like every usual Wednesday
2) Mentioning that this drop will take place today and not on Wednesday
3) Limit the exclusive to your members for 48 hours
4) Limit purchases to two copies max

But well, we’ve learned a lot about this in the past. And stepping up numbers for future drops don’t seem like anything they’d be up to - because that’s not the game.

Anyway, I’m happy that I’ve secured a copy before it sold out but I’m getting more tired of this exclusive game each day - but I’ve been saying this over a year now and I’m still in...

We’ll see what the future brings but at last we’ll always have music. :)

as somebody who is very familiar with sneaker culture as i've been collecting sneakers way before i started collecting vinyl.i don't believe bots have hit the vinyl online market just yet.as when bots are involved speaking as far as sneakers go, highly sought out kicks that are manufactured in quantities in the hundred thousands bots are able to help make sneaker releases sell out almost instantly.sadly as i see vinyl culture becomes more popular i see the possibility of that happening in the very near future if not already in the works from bot creators. :(

I cancelled my VMP membership today because I am absolutely fed up with this shit. There is no reason to pay for shitty ROTMs and absolute shit service for their members. Literally zero benefit to being a member because unless you follow every fucking social media account / reddit post like a hawk, you WILL miss a drop, or be 30 mins late and it already be sold out. Fuck VMP (except Customer Service).

I quit last month and it felt great hah. If there's an exclusive release you want, as you can see, you can still buy it from their store without being a member.

good luck to that person/people trying to sell at that price, it's not like you can't still get the black for $18.99 + shipping
I wouldn't be shocked to see it sell. A copy of Blond sold for $1,500 on discogs last month with nothing special about it outside of it still being sealed, which probably means there's a greater chance of it being warped now hah. I have realized how bad people are at looking at values of records before purchasing. I was on a facebook live auction for records a few weeks back and The Stooges VMP record came up for auction. It sold for $65+ shipping when it was available in the VMP store still for $40 if you were not a member.
