Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

Rubin seems to be catching a lot of flack online for his 60 Minutes interview in which his shtick seems to be put on full display. I posted this over here without even knowledge of that interview taking place:

Interview:

Just a few that came across my timeline (again, after I posted that opinion)

Seems unfair as his track record kinda speaks for itself. His process seems to work. He wasn't always a barefooted bearded Buddha espousing quasi eastern philosophy. People seem to neglect to account for the fact that Rubin ran a couple successful music labels and has been in the business for 40 years. If the artist buy into his philosophy or not doesn’t really matter as long as the end result is a hit record.

ehhhh, I would suggest that def jam was very nearly run into the ground at least once. I don't know how much of that is rubin and how much of that is russel simmons. def american has also shown a distinct lack of interest in actually being a record label (viz, the danzig records that people want to hear, that aren't being reissued, are not being reissued because rubin's just sitting on them. people keep asking danzig and he keeps saying "ask rick, he's got the rights")

I guess I should clarify, both were successful labels in that they released a multitude of well regarded, popular albums. I wasn’t talking about from an actual business perspective. I would say the portion that matters regarding production is the ability to recognize talent and artistry, two things that he proved capable of while starting both labels.

It's kinda crazy that RHCP is my favorite band but also a band I often cannot stand to listen to...
