Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

What an odd coincidence; my family and I are staying in Interlochen for a few days in July, though I'd never heard of it before. My bio-father lives in Benzonia near there and we want to visit.
I’ve been living in this area for 20+ years now and the summers here just can’t be beaten. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore beaches are great. For your record shopping needs, check out RPM records in Traverse City.

Ah, I knew it was way up there (I guess just not that far north) thanks!
Didn't mean to be mr. corrector guy, but you know, in case you headed there I wouldn't want you to be in the wrong peninsula. :)

I hope you enjoy it, it's such a nice area. My cousin used to live in Benzie, she's in Frankfort now, which is a coastal town near there. If you get a chance, head into Traverse City; the brewery, winery and distillery scene there is excellent. (if that's your thing)

Since @Twentytwo has been candid with not digging Waylon. I thought I should throw one out for you guys: I find Chet Baker to be boring. Like I get that Buble is the contemporary version, but I’d much rather listen to ol bubbles.
I will take it one step further. I don’t really care for vocal jazz as a whole for much of the same reason. Outside of the Holiday season I have no use for it.

with some exceptions, I largely skip vocal jazz. when it's done right, it really, really hits the spot. that blossom dearie album, tony bennet (which wasn't always jazz, but when he did it, he did it well,) the female voices of note (nina, lady day, sarah vaughn, ella, etta, samara joy,) and very very rarely some male vocalists of note (hartman, some sinatra, ray charles etc). I'm much more likely to listen to instrumental jazz.

I’m completely the opposite.

That said other than some of the really ubiquitous great classical I find instrumental music pretty boring. The worst of it is tortuous.

Yeah, I was like this for the most part as a teen/young adult, outside Medeski Martin & Wood and Godspeed You! Black Emperor I didn’t mess with instrumentals at all. I didn’t even enjoy live jam bands stuff by Phish or Grateful Dead (I preferred there studio albums) because of the noodley nature of those long jams. In my thirties this began to change and over time I have grown to being more drawn to instrumentals I even appreciate the instrumentation on vocal tracks that I hadn’t in the past. Vocal jazz is still a bridge too far though but who knows maybe it will be my favorite when I hit my fifties.
