Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

They're like the modern day Nickelback (lazy comparison I know), except you could avoid Nickelback for the most part back when they were big if you really wanted to. What makes Imagine Dragons a little worse imo is the oversaturation - I've heard their lifeless music used in car commercials, movie trailers, any environment where mediocre, streamlined arena rock is appropriate to use. That's not necessarily their fault but you can't help but resent something that's pushed in your face constantly a little bit.
Well "How You Remind Me" was the most played song of 2000-2010 so they were super oversaturated too. Plus some of us had mom's that subjected us to that type of music. But Yeah Imagine Dragons are also inescapable

Kurt Vile should of stayed in The War on Drugs.

I've tried to get into his solo work at different times but his last album confirmed for me I'll never like a project of his.
Why do you say his last album though? I don't think anyone considers it his strongest.

That last album was the last straw for me. I tried with everything after Smoke Ring. I expected I would at least enjoy his collab with Courtney Barnett but nope. Loading Zones and One Trick Ponies were all right but besides that his whole discography is just not my cup of tea.

Fair enough, you definitely tried. I was disappointed in how boring I found Lotta Sea Lice as well.

The Hold Steady are the 00's/Brooklyn Hipster Remake of Huey Lewis & The News.
I really never thought of The Hold Steady as hipster or typical of the early-mid 2000’s Brooklyn bands at all but yeah I can see the Huey Lewis dig. They really hit that bar band vibe. My wife hates them aside from maybe two songs and thinks they all sound the same. Plus, Craig Finn barely sings but rather talks. It’s definitely an acquired taste but his stories are so good! I saw them at a side stage at Summerfest in Milwaukee around 2014 or so and the stands were only about 3/4 full which kind of surprised me. About half of the audience was family members and friends of the band too haha! It was one of the loudest and best crowds I was ever a part of. Kind of solidified me as a fan.

Yeah, I know The Hold Steady are revered by some folks, but, I've just never really been able to get into them. I've tried and tried, and they just aren't for me.

I didn't mean to suggest this was necessarily a bad thing.

Just that a Venn Diagram with one circle being 80's "New Wave" and one circle being 00's Hipster Rock encircling the same area filled by HL&TN and THS, might be kind of a hot take.

Craig Finn performed solo at an Alejandro Escovedo show I went to a year or so ago. His performance felt awkward to me. I like wordy artists like Dylan and Springsteen, and while Finn lines up stylistically with Springsteen in his delivery, I just found his performance tedious. Give me a Huey Lewis record any day.
