Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

Imagine Dragons are perfectly mediocre, and don't deserve the hate. They deserve mehs, but not hate.
They're like the modern day Nickelback (lazy comparison I know), except you could avoid Nickelback for the most part back when they were big if you really wanted to. What makes Imagine Dragons a little worse imo is the oversaturation - I've heard their lifeless music used in car commercials, movie trailers, any environment where mediocre, streamlined arena rock is appropriate to use. That's not necessarily their fault but you can't help but resent something that's pushed in your face constantly a little bit.

All Radiohead albums would be better if they cut out a song or two
Surprisingly agree with this, although the fact that you could probably never come to any sort of consensus on which songs need be stricken perhaps attest to the albums’ tightness from a not strictly subjective if not objective point of view. Personally, I think “Lucky” is the song whose absence would leave OK Computer unchanged for me. Most overt Pink Floyd worship on the album and thusly goes in one ear and out the other, not because I dislike the Floyd, just the most devoid of personality.

Kate Bush has some of the worst vocals I've ever heard. Her songwriting/ instrumentation are PHENOMENAL but that voice sounds like a drunk woman trying to do a Bee Gees Impression
Mad react because of course I would. Really though, I can understand this point of view, I mean, “Houdini.” I like wonky vocals admittedly, but hers are all I ever look for.

These edits were actually well done and effective. I think the album version of 'Neon Lights' is one of the most beautiful synth based pop songs ever. That said, having a version to put on mixes that was only 3:30 was awesome. Still got the general feel of the song, but still allowed me room for other tracks.
I have thought I might prefer “Neon Lights” several minutes shorter and another song on the album, although my appreciation has improved slowly.

Best. Thread. Ever.

Further, Beyonce’s Lemonade is the most overrated release foisted upon the public this century.
And yes I’m aware Arcade Fire’s entire discography was released this century, but it (the entire Arcade Fire discography) is still #2 on that list.

Also, Frank Ocean needs to get over himself.

The best musical genre to come out of the 90s was the dance party jam.

And, whatever you think your favorite 90s jam is, it’s probably not quite as good as White Town’s “I Could Never Be Your Woman,” unless your favorite 90s jam happens to be “Space Jam” by the Quad City DJs or “Be My Lover” by La Bouche.

Reading through this thread made me feel like me thinking When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? is a lot better than it has any right to be is at least a lukewarm take. The… “Hollywood” vocal style over the Books-esque sound play appeals to me greatly, and the more I catch the lyrics the more I'm, if not blown away, then impressed with them.

As for the “‘might seduce your dad’-type” line, impulsively reading into the album's structure makes me think “Bad Guy” is a romanticization of negative personality traits that kick off a depressive spiral, and that accordingly, the song is more morose sardonicism than to be taken literally… EVEN IF IT MAKES FOR A BOP.

Going through this thread only now, but I'd like to say all may Kraftwerk records are giving you cheesy smiles, the SWANS records are holding sledgehammers and look pretty manic, and your copy of OK Computer is giving you puppy dog eyes.

Naturally, A Night at the Opera smirked, turned up it's nose and sauntered away.

Hahahaha! My absurd box of Ok Computer (the fourth version of that I’ve bought in my lifetime 😳) is safe! It’s one of those beautiful exceptions that proves the rule 😀

Venga Boys?! Aqua?!?! What a decade!

Oh, I've repurchased that album several times as well. Figured it would be but still thought I'd make the jab.

Actually, this reminds me that I think Prince's 1999, with it's recurring "transportation as metaphor for sex," among other things, has a better claim at being a concept album than literally any Radiohead album, even though I've seen several of theirs referred to as such several times.

I don’t think any Radiohead album is a concept album...

Yeah Thom has reoccurring hang ups (fear of cars, fear of technology, a fascination with lost dreams and a distrust of humanity) and certain albums move towards/away from musical styles but I don’t see an overarching concept that ties any of them together.

Precisely, and yet I've seen OK Computer and Kid A discribed so...
