Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

That’s a double declaration of war! Murphy’s is so crap that I’ve actually never seen a pub in Ireland with it on tap...

Beamish is an acceptable non Guinness answer, it just marks you out as one of them lot from down there...
Oops, Beamish is what I meant haha. And what do you mean down there? Down where? Aussie..not me mate.:mad::LOL:

Lager is actually as much a type as Ale. What it really means is that a bottom fermenting yeast is used (as opposed to ale's top fermenting yeast) it is also cold conditioned (which is called lagering). There are also many different types of lagers, from Baltic Porters to Pilsners, so saying there is only so much you can do with the style isn't correct. People even make IPLs to good effect. Pretty much everything Jack's Abbey makes is great. Wish I could get them down here.
Wow, did not know Baltic Porter was cold conditioned. One of my favorite tipples.

Over the past few years I've slowly been forced into the craft beer life. I'm from central Oregon, and I live in Portland a couple months out of the year, so every year I essentially am making a pilgrimage from one craft beer Mecca to another. I'm pretty sure there are more breweries in Bend than there are grocery stores. Deschutes is popular for a reason, it's good, but if you're ever in Oregon, Crux is where it's at. Also, McMenamins Edgefield just outside of Portland has some of THE best cider you'll ever have in your life

I’m visiting Portland later this year and intend to visit a few of them. Portland has the highest concentration of breweries per square mile in the country. Asheville NC is second. I visited it a few months back and didn’t care for the town itself but the breweries are everywhere. My Untapped numbers got quite a boost 😬 :p

When you say IPL, do you mean an Imperial Lager in the style as we commonly know it? I have never seen one of those.
Nah, I meant it like an IPA but a lager. Breweries have done things like Imperial Pilsner as well and I'm sure I've tried one but it was a long time ago and I can't remember it.

Imperial Porter is really good. Flying Dog- Gonzo is my favorite. Granted I'm a huge Hunter S Thompson Fan so I'm very biased.

What’s the verdict on Snithwick’s? It’s my go to pub libation when I’m feeling Guinness is a little heavy.

It’s fine. As a red ale it’s a different kettle of fish altogether though so there’s no Guinness wars really haha! I think the Guinness mega corp owns it too. Kilkenny is another red ale that’s meant to be good too. My go to red ales though are both craft, but everywhere on tap here, called Rebel Red and Cute Hoor.
