Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

*Slowly hoists pirate flag*

A lot of people are already starting to hop back onto the piracy train. The ease and convenience of a couple streaming networks having EVERYTHING really dealt a blow to the vitality of the piracy community over the past decade or so, but now that everything is becoming even more splintered out and compartmentalized, a resurgence is definitely happening

On the topic of Stranger Things and Santa Clarita Diet (respectively mediocre and terrible shows, IMO), I'll take it a step further and say that Netflix has the worst track record for original content out of all the major streaming networks. They have a whole ton of "pretty good" stuff, but almost nothing sticks as a legitimate "great", even the programming that Netflix is most known for - House Of Cards now has more bad seasons than good ones, the best Black Mirror episodes are the ones made pre-Netflix, Stranger Things is 80s pastiche. Their business model is to flood your attention span with hundreds of original shows that can keep your attention just for as long as it takes for you to get hit with another show to watch. In terms of critical acclaim, Netflix hasn't had anything that begins to touch The Wire, True Detective S1, or The Leftovers. Even in terms of cultural zeitgeist, Netflix STILL hasn't had its Game Of Thrones or Sopranos
Hulu has The Venture Bros. making it the superior streaming service by default

Alcohol opinions
Perrys are better than apple ciders.
Voodoo Ranger is one of the GOAT IPAs
IF ITS NOT MADE IN KENTUCKY IT'S NOT FUCKING BOURBON
Blanton's is good but overpriced

I am drunk! I may not be an Irish citizen but it's my heritage!! Kidding of course don't want to come across as belittling the Irish for enjoying the drink 😀
I am super Irish though. My bloodline is so Irish I can trace back to the county my family originated. Actually a shit ton of kentuckians are of Irish descent. It's a part of why Kentucky actually had a fairly decent part to play in the revolution. A bunch of pissed off Irishman didn't sail across the ocean to tolerate the English telling them what to do! 😂
Happy 4th from across the pond !

I don’t know what a Perry is unless it’s Farrel. Apple ciders aren’t a high bar to be better than.
IPAs are garbage. If I am ever in the supremely masochistic mood for something that tastes like that, I’ll pop open the fuel tank on my truck, stick in a straw, and start sipping diesel.
That’s true, but who cares, bourbon is hillbilly swill. When it comes to whisky, it’s Irish, Scotch, or nothing.

A Perry is Pear Cider.
IPAs (Depending on the specific type) are either great or disgusting there's no middle ground.

Were you born in the mid to late 80s or later? I feel like that's who the show was designed for.. people who just aren't quite old enough to actually have been cognisant when the show took place.
Early 80’s. But I think your point still stands. Were I to have been born in the 70’s, my recollection of the time period would definitely have a different flavor and level of experience. My perspective of the mid to late 80’s is influenced by the childlike wonder of experiencing those events while under the age of 10. I’d say that very much plays a part in my nostalgia for that time period.

The problem with cider is that 90% of it is horrible sweet stuff that makes you want to vomit after about 2 pints.

Now proper West Country/south west cider that’s a approaching double figures % abv and is as dry as a good white wine, now that’s good stuff.

Get some rattler down you!

This is also true, but it does not affect my original statement.

Ahh, that sounds terrible.
IPAs are just terrible. I suspect that the love for IPAs stems from the same nihilistic roots as the self hatred and fascination with death I see so common with folks these days. IPAs are a form of self flagellation.

I think this is true unless I'm forgetting something. But they do a good job of bringing great European shows to my attention as "Netflix" shows. DARK was great. I need to get time to watch the new season.

I do like stranger things, but I don't think it is anything more than a fun homage to It/Goonies/80s nostalgia. But those things are fun to me 🤷‍♂️.

I love all the stuff that ST pays homage to, but imma still pass. I’ll just rewatch the stuff from my childhood if I wanna relive that stuff.

Except The Neverending Story. Let that stay in the memories where it belongs. It doesn’t hold up. At all.

I was raised Catholic and subjected to horrid, sickly sweet wine. I won't drink anything too sweet

I was raised catholic too but before the early 00s most Catholics I know viewed churches where anyone but the priest had communion wine as dangerous subversive hipsters. I’d only seen it done at the happy clappy catholic youth retreat we were sent to for a weekend a couple of times a year...
