Just found a EU second press OG Kid A for $140 CAD...

I have that one and PIF'd my XL version after picking it up. If I'm being honest both were quite close. I just kept the 1st press for the reason that it was a 1st press. I don't think I could have differentiated if I did a blindfold test. I got mine for 40€, not sure I'd drop 140 on it though.

The main reason i got it is because I have Joe's old Capitol 10 inch press and it's got a lot of noise on the last 2 sides. So I had to upgrade either way. The 12 inch is OOS and will probably run me over $40 when it's back in stock sooooo, why not give this a shot.

That black really does pick up the noise lol. I always though that press was flat but can’t remember it being noisy! That said this was in the pre Hana and ultrasonic days, maybe I’d have noticed more now…

Hahaha yes. But to be fair it's right where I see most of the complaints about Kid A pressings. They almost universally seem to have no fill issues with How to Disappear Completely and Treefingers. And that's right where this noise starts...

I didn't mean for that post to sound ungrateful haha. I very much appreciated the PIF. But the more I listen to it the more I realize I need a (hopefully) clean (ish) copy.

only noticing the distorted vocals on How To Disappear Completely, otherwise, flat records + not noticing much surface noise on my Scarry book pressing even without a clean. Records have some minor warping that DNAP but seem to be pressed dead center. pretty happy with them since I was worried after all the bad reports about the regular and red pressings...

So they pretty much anticipated the seam splits and shipped extra inners?
in short, yes.

mine were fine though so now i have 2 sets of inners haha. also i kinda hate packages like this because it's annoying to take the records in and out. would have preferred a regular album jacket + the book. with stuff like this i just end up keeping the albums in an outer sleeve with a sheet of cardboard to make them easier to take out to listen to. i'd be worried about ripping the book every time i take them out of the book.

So far Kid A sounds pretty good. I don't have my red anymore to compare but from what I remember it sounds slightly better. Still no distortion on How to Disappear so either I'm ignorant to it or I got lucky on 2 copies.
I got the red a few days ago and didn’t notice any distortion either. I played it a few times to try and hear what everyone was talking about but I couldn’t hear anything out of the ordinary when comparing to with streaming/headphones. Guess I got lucky. Mine were flat and quiet as well.

It’s VERY noticeable. I’ll make sure my tone arm is calibrated and try on my other turntable but maybe you both just got lucky!
