Incoming! The New Equipment Thread

Addendum to my initial 15 year post. My first pair of speakers (purchased 25 years ago along with that starter system) were Mission 702e, and those were upgraded a couple years later to Energy C2s. I gave those C2s to a friend a few years ago and they're still being used daily in his system today, and they sound awesome. I gave away every part of my initial system to friends and family and most of it is still operating today. I love seeing and hearing that those pieces are still running and providing musical joy. It feels good.
Aww. 😎

LS28SE 1st week update.

I’ll try not to ramble on about how much I’ve been enjoying the new preamp, what a pleasure it is to use, or how sweet it sounds. Roughly 80 album sides and all types of music to date.

It is extended into the clouds without any fatigue or harshness in the highs. Bass and all important midrange is in perfect balance. Even more precise soundstage and definition than b4. Musically correct in every way to my ears. I feel immensely privileged every time I fire the system up.

My amplification chain has a nice mix of a few tubes and quality solid state. It seems to be working. Pass Labs on the lowest level signals (XP-17 phono) and the main power amp (X250.8) combined with the tubed Audio Research LS28SE between to bring it all together. And check out that aluminum brick of a remote. :-).

About 15 years ago I gave my brother my then 10 year old Energy A3+2s. He still uses them daily. Energy from that era was seriously good for the money. I still hold the Veritas 2.8s in very high regard. I give, or steeply discount, a lot of my gear away to friends and family. My brother-in-law has my old AR The Turntable that was modded out by Vinyl Nirvana, another buddy has my old Yamaha RV-992 from the 90’s set up on his basement, my niece has my old Denon AVR-4306CI, and there’s probably more I don’t remember. lol.

The only bits of my system I remember from 15 years ago are that I was using it mainly in the living room, so I got Def Tech Mythos STS’, dual SVS PB13-Ultra’s (as end tables), a Denon AVR (4306 or 4310), and an Oppo dvd player.

Energy made some great speakers. 👍

15 years ago, I had the same speakers, power amp and preamp in my main rig as I do today, but no turntable at all. I did not purchase my first turntable and phono preamp until 2016.

I had a NAD five disc CD changer in 2015 that was later replaced with an Integra 6 disc. I used the changer as a transport for the DAC in the preamp.

I certainly resemble those thoughts after hearing the RP-9 with the same 6H30 tubes.
I went on a vinyl bender this week checking to see how much better albums would sound.

I think the KG Astral Weeks surprised me the most.
I was sitting there staring at the speakers thinking how does this $25 copy sound so damn good now.
For the record- I was only slightly inebriated.😬

Semi-serious questions - why were you staring at the speakers? Can you tell that is where the music is coming from?

Room treatment is very important but sometimes really difficult, if not impossible, to implement. We spend so much money on our gear and then the actual room can adversely impact the resultant sound we experience.
Yeah I think it's just that SO few people have dedicated rooms that they can do this sort of thing with. Hell I mean I do have a dedicated room and my wife would still kill me if I started putting acoustic panels all over the place. Partly why I really like properly done room correction.

This is why I still think that if you’re into that kinda thing that you need to get into it from the ground up and just have the room renovated with acoustic insulation, plasterboard and plaster. There are some wall panels that I don’t despise, none that I probably actually like though, but the ceiling ones are a joke, they’re all so fucking ugly.

Quite like the wood ones that go on the wall that look like a vertical relief of a city scape.

I didn't change anything in the room so I wasn't walking around looking at the walls in amazement.
Would seriously consider some options but two things matter.
Randomly placing tacky panels on the walls and ceilings.
And the random buying of panels trying to guess what is applicable to my situation.

It's a little too much of throwing darts for me.
Carpet and curtains kind of do the job for the time being.

And a superb sounding preamp wasn't too much of a gamble or changing aesthetics.
