Incoming! The New Equipment Thread

Quite like the wood ones that go on the wall that look like a vertical relief of a city scape.

Yeah randomly local hardware stores here seem to have started selling the ones that are just straight wooden slats in 2.4m by .6m panels and they aren’t awful. I do question whether I’d chose to have wooden slats on my wall for an aesthetic reason otherwise and it kinda all starts to fall down for me then.

This is why I still think that if you’re into that kinda thing that you need to get into it from the ground up and just have the room renovated with acoustic insulation, plasterboard and plaster. There are some wall panels that I don’t despise, none that I probably actually like though, but the ceiling ones are a joke, they’re all so fucking ugly.
Once you’ve heard what smartly engineered acoustic panels can do for your listening pleasure their looks can take a back seat. But, I understand that is a highly personal take. I’m fortunate to have a room that is dedicated to the stereo but until some avroomservice.com polyflex diffusers were installed it was meh sounding, at best. Six of the diffusers absolutely turned the meh room into a space that has completely disappeared the speakers and have made the unfortunate 6’-7” ceiling a non factor. Two on each sidewall at the first reflection point and one at the ceiling first reflection point above each speaker gives incredible results.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing what the Lyngdorf can do in the basement room. The Dirac does a good job down there as it is...

I truly think speaker placement is going to do more than room treatments.
I mean if you have tile everywhere with mirrored ceilings, there's probably no help speaker placement can add. You're better to just start with a different room.

Otherwise a rug, some blankets over leather chairs, curtains, etc.. are going to look nice and get you most of the way there for 2 channel.

I live in a 2 bedroom apartment. My hifi is in my one open plan living area. With all due respect looks can absolutely not take a backseat. I have to cook and eat and have people over and watch tele in there too. Even if I ever swing a house I’m not going to have that kinda space to dedicate and even if i did I’d not enjoy the music if I didn’t enjoy the setting. Life is always more important.

Absolutely, we do what we can.

To each their own. We all have different tastes. Saul Goodman.

My “listening room” is our living room which has a 100-year-old upright piano in it. To say that it screwed up the sound of the room when we moved it in is an understatement. I have adjusted to it since then.

We probably are not far from some really cool software to 3D model rooms and give us some very nice recommendations.
Haha yeah but that's flat brick (love the look)... Mine is jagged rock... I don't think brick is reflective, but I'm pretty sure solid rock is....

What's on the right wall and wall at your back standing here?

Right wall is drywall, I think insulated (was there before I arrived).

Back and left and right walls: wood planks. Insulation underneath.

Floor is vinyl flooring planks, over dry core interlock over concrete. Ceiling is drywall and sound insulating Rockwool.

Projector onto the short brick wall - pull down screen, there, isn't there?
