It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

Scottish league merger with the PL would be pretty cool IMO

There’s not a chance in hell of the English clubs ever voting to allow it despite Celtic and Rangers batting their eyelids at them for at least 20 years now.

Also the SFA are massively against it and lobby against it because of the fear that it would threaten the independent nature of the four U.K. home nation teams.

Finally it’d be weird to merge leagues at a time when politically Scotland is as close to divorce from the U.K. as it has been since the Jacobite risings.

I know, I know. If the PL was worried about what would happen if they booted the big 6, inviting Celtic/Rangers could raise the profile of the PL a little bit. Just an idea.

I think my edit about the way Scotland is moving is also factor despite the old firm being the old firm. Those two would totally jump on that if they were allowed as I joked last night.

My gut tells me this SL nonsense will not, can not happen.
My head, on the other hand, says greed always wins and FIFA, UEFA and the SL folks will get together and 'work it out' to the detriment of all non SL teams.
Then everyone will say what's the big deal here? And in the meantime, top level football for the likes of ITFC become an ever more distant dream until the fans drift away as they lose interest at the unfairness of it all.

The ESL probably thought there would be some backlash, but this is beyond anything they could have imagined. This is universally being shot down and protested by everyone. Spain, France and UK governments are going to change the EU law and UK law to prevent this kind of league. I don't know if they bargained for something like that happening. Hopefully, hopefully, it's just a bluff for some UEFA changes that the major clubs want. That would be a best case scenario.

The Super League will play games mid week. Isn't that when CL games are played? So is this Super League trying to take the place of the CL?

Yes. They still think that they can come home every weekend and play against the little teams that they deem too unimportant to ever he capable of qualitying for their money spinning cabal.

Yes. The Big
The Leeds equipment manager is the hero that we need today.

That's a bit unfair of a caption given Klopp has stated before and restated today that he is against the Super League and enjoys the Champions League. It's unfair if Klopp and the players bear the brunt of the anger for this when none of them asked for this league to happen nor were consulted about it. Anger at FSG, justified. Anger at Liverpool players, staff, and manager, not justified.
