It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

The shameful six haven’t been reasonable. Fuck em.

I guess I should have used the word *realistic* instead. I hope Leeds wins 10-1 but realistically 3-1 will be solid!!!

Either way its all fucked now cuz Mane! Lets go Bamford and Harrison!!!! LETS GO LEEDS

I mean, Chelsea and Man City I dont count as English teams anyway. All their success is very recent (in English terms) and comes directly from shady foreign sources. At least Liverpool, Man U and Arsenal have a tradition of success. Spurs, well, Ipswich has won the league more recently...sez it all really lol.

Nottingham Forest and Villa have more CLs than Arsenal, City, Chelsea and Spurs combined. Why aren’t they both invited?

I really want Milner to stick around after his playing days are over to be part of the staff. I'm glad he spoke out.

The romantic in me would like him to go back to the woollybacks to finish his career with them. But yeah he’s definitely someone you’d want on your staff after his career.

I'm just so happy Leeds are proving to be a solid top 10 club. 3 wins and 2 draws last 5. A win against city and a draw against Klopperpoo solidifies they're up and staying up.

As the richest teams continue to get richer it's nice to see the middle of the road squads give em hell.

I just hope that we can continue to have teams be given hell for years to come!

If these top 6 teams stay in the EPL, they EPL will become the competitive league full of upsets and exciting unpredictable football. The ESP becomes a boring snooze fest that no one cares about.

It already is. Burnley gave us a hell of a game on Sunday. It was a great watch even if it made it uncomfortable for me. Leeds played fantastic entertaining football in holding Liverpool. West Brom ripped Chelsea to pieces a few weeks back. Even the last round of the Champions League was fantastic.

Yeah the pandemic has made every game so unpredictable. And I hope the CL and EL stick around. Let’s have West Ham vs. Torino or Leeds vs. Valencia. I’d watch the shit out if that.

Reading Perez's interview today and listening to the Palace Chairman on MNF yesterday my concerns that this thing isn't going anywhere is confirmed. At this point it's just going to be about finding the best deal for the various leagues involved and some sort of agreement with UEFA/FIFA.

The Palace Chairman basically laughed it off in the beginning by saying these six PL clubs have massively overplayed their hand however he was quick to admit and say the PL needs these 6 clubs simply because of their brand power. He was also quick to say these clubs don't want to leave the PL, they just don't want the Champions League. Basically suggesting the PL as it currently is and the ESL could coexist. Remember United and Liverpool already tried this shit earlier this season with the "big picture". The talk of expelling the clubs from the PL is gung-ho but the fact is the PL and the other clubs know how much money they'll lose as well if these clubs aren't involved. I'm sure they're just going to be talking about how much money trickles back into their pockets from the ESL. The 5 remaining spots, I would imagine are for a qualifying league team from each of these leagues basically.

Perez pretty much said they all signed and there's no way of breaking the contract. They're all in. He also said they've consulted the law on what sanctions FIFA can actually do on imposing bans on national team players. Even then...you have to ask, are FIFA going to be cool with the biggest name players not playing in their tournament?

The only wild card left is probably the UK Government or the EU that can squeeze this by adding various sanctions but then again, I think a payoff and agreement will be the pragmatic approach all of them take.

I said it before, these owners don't fuck around. Gary Neville also mentioned it on MNF - Avram Glazer rarely puts his name on anything and the fact that they've come out with their names on the statement speaks volumes. I'm sure they've already got the sponsorships and tv deals (see: Streaming) in place. I really don't see it going away :(
