It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

They’ve ignored mass demonstrations to their takeover and continued ownership before. I don’t know that they care all that much. But maybe the scale and multi club dimension may hold more force.

I think your thinking about Hicks and Gilette Joe ? They were rightly pushed out for fraud. There was some initial push back on Fenway Sports but when you win a couple trophies that can go away. There was also a anti Glazer Green/Gold movement at old Trafford over their handling of finances.

Saying that you will now see lots of Built by Shanks, Ruined by Yanks banners in Merseyside soon. Making any trip to support the club from America in the future (when allowed) a harrowing experience.

A lot of the Kop end supporters groups have requested their banners be taken down for the rest of the season, starting with the Newcastle match on Saturday.

I have heard from my local mates that Spirit of Shankly and Spionkop will remove ALL banners from Anfield before next weeks match.

No I’m a Manchester United fan and I was living in Manchester 2005-2007. I was actually a minor shareholder in the club at the time. There were mass demonstrations against the Glazers at the time and a breakaway club was formed. They didn’t give a fuck, they stopped attending games. It resurfaced with the green and gold thing around 2010 but again they just blanked it, never returned to the stadium and it ran out of steam eventually. They are impervious to criticism, they ignore and keep sticking their card into ATM that is Manchester United and going ker-ching.

Hicks/Gillette were Liverpool, not my club and they were brought down as much by their own incompetence and internal falling out as any protests and yes I’d heard that about the banners being removed from the Kop.

Sky Sports would be all over this concept of they had been promised rights to broadcast it. They are the worst. Such hypercritical bastards. Fuck Sky.

UEFA will back down and a compromise will be reached. This is a first draft of the ESL and between them and UEFA a new competition will be created.

The whole affair is dirty and I don't like it from both sides of the argument.

I am absolutely loving the drama though.🤣

This is still taking up a lot more of my brain power than it should. Making me think about my relationship about football and watching it. At the moment I have one of the UK sports TV providers as part of my cable package, so I get some EPL and the European matches. It's technically a freebie, but if I had to pay for it I really wouldn't bother - the EPL highlights I get on my council telly would do me nicely.

At the end of the day, the ESL is meaningless to me, as there is no way I'm going to get up at 4 in the morning to watch teams I don't support. Still, it's the culmination of all that's wrong with modern football, and I really can't be bothered.

I think what I'm going to miss most about Scottish football are the trips to the lower league grounds more than the big teams. It's much more fun. I've spent my afternoon trying to work out who my nearest lower league Melbourne team could be...

Rumours are that Chelsea, City and Atletico, who were the most reluctant entrants supposedly, are pulling out. The dirty dozen are also supposedly on a conference call to wind it down.

UEFA supposedly secured a similar sized credit line with a different finance house today.

This whole thing has been so unprofessionally managed that it begs the question, was this just a gambit?
