It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

Yeah you’ve got Courtois, Neuer, Lloris, and Donnarumma but the rest of the lot are not their strongest assets. Schmeichel always plays well for Denmark. I see them easily surpassing the Czechs and making the Semifinals.

I’m going to be controversial here and say that’s Neuer has passed his best and I was never quite as hard on his hype train as most even when he was at the top. I don’t think he was ever as good with the playing so high and with the ball at his feet as the world convinced itself he was. Had excellent fundamentals and presence on the actual goalkeeping side though. Llorris has also passed his best for me, he is playing behind a wonderful defence with France though!

What I like about Schmeichel and why I rate him so highly is that the higher the stakes the better he performs. Think Leicester’s title year of the cup final. That’s a great habit for any player to have!

I love Donnarumma though, that guy
Is a monster.

As I was listing those guys off I was thinking about those same points. Neuer plays in a system with a high line and dodgy defense. He’s caught out very often for Germany and Bayern. Still does make good saves.

Lloris I’m biased, obviously, but statistically has been one of the best pure shot stoppers in the world in the past 5 years. He does have the occasional noticeable blunder in him though, that Danilo punch, World Cup final mistake, etc. but as a pure shot stopper, he’s one of the best. Everything else he does is not so good.

I hadn’t watched a lot of Donarumma before this tournament. He’s been class. Against Austria he made a one armed save in extra time look so casual. The type of shot it was easily goes past the average goalkeeper.

Yep this article nails it!

When it comes to the now long distant past English football fans really need to just build a bridge and get the fuck over it.

Fortunately, the teams don't seem to buy into any sort of bitter rivalry. Neuer announced that the german team will go down on their knees in solidarity with the english team while harry kane will like neuer wear a rainbow coloured captains armband

what a day!! My poor coworker did a parlay with Spain and the Tampa Bay Lightning at first (lost cuz it counted as a draw) and tried to do it again with France. Got fucked both times in the 90th!
